Training for New York I am ramping up my training for the New York City Marathon. My longest run to date is 16 miles, so only a few more "long runs" to go. It is less than a month away, and I'm so excited! For all my NYC friends, please come out and cheer for me or run with me! Can't wait to see you! PS. I'm continuing fundraising, so please keep the donations coming! ____________________________________________________ Updates on Kauai! I am back from my extended birthday celebration, and I am happy to say both Danny and I completed the Kauai half marathon along with our fellow Team in Training members. This was the first marathon that they have held in Kauai, and everything was really well organized. They even had hula dancers every few miles. The weather was hot and humid, which made the first 4 miles feel like running in a sauna. Luckily around mile 5 or 6, it started raining, which felt very refreshing. However, then we had to run the rest of the race with soggy sneakers. The first 7 miles were also uphill, but the last 6.1 were mostly downhill back towards the beach. We ran through a neighborhood; at nearly every house, the residents were sitting out front cheering for us, even at the nursing home. For the final few miles, it was really warm, but I can't complain too much since I was running with a great view of the ocean. As I was entering the final mile, the leader of the marathon ran by, which was neat to see but a bit depressing since he had run 26 miles versus my 13 in the same amount of time. I finished in 2 hours and 45 min. Danny came in a little over 15 minutes later, and even though this was the farthest he had ever run in his life, he said he would consider doing it again! After the race, we had a fabulous time touring Kauai! We went water tubing through a old sugarcane planation. Then we went for snorkel boat trip to see the Napali coast (giant cliffs). We were able to see dolphins and sea turtles swimming alongside our boat. This week, I returned training today as the Kauai half was the first of the two races I plan to do this fall. I will also be running the New York City marathon (the full 26.2 miles!) on November 1, 2009. I will send you updates as the training progresses! In case you interested, here's the NYC course: http://www.ingnycmarathon.org/documents/coursemap.pdf I'll be posting Kauai pictures soon, so stay tuned! Race Photos are here: http://www.sportphoto.com/Event.aspx?EventID=71 Enter bib 1611 Thank you again to everyone who has supported me! For those who did not get a chance to donate, it's not too late! Please donate today! ____________________________________________ Less than a week away! Danny and I are getting REALLY excited for our race THIS sunday! We're flying out on Friday morning and running 13.1 miles on Sunday morning. The weather is supposed to be really warm for the race (mid-80s). There's a chance of rain, which might feel really nice after that many miles! The first seven miles are all uphill. Click here to check out the course: http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=251760 I just want to say thanks again to everyone who has donated! I'm almost to my goal BUT still have a more to raise. Please help me and donate today! It's not too late! P.S. Sunday (Race Day) is also my birthday! So I will happily consider your donation as a birthday gift! :) --------------------------------------- Training Update! This Saturday, I ran 10 miles! I almost up to being able to do the half marathon (13.1 miles). It's a good thing because I have less than a month to go. Danny and I have been training hard. He's up to 8 miles, the longest he's ever run. We're both looking forward to the trip and the run through Kauai. BUT I still need your help! Our fundraising deadline is quickly approaching and am behind my goal. Would you help me in achieving this goal of raising a substantial amount of money to help treat patients with blood cancer and eventually find a cure? Thanks so much for all your help and support! ----------------------------------------- Racing to Save Lives Aloha! Welcome to my Team In Training home page! I'm back for another season of Team In Training, this time with the San Francisco chapter. I am training to participate in both the Kauai Half Marathon on September 6, 2009 (my 26th birthday!) and the New York City Marathon on November 1, 2009. This season I am recruiting people to join me in Hawaii for my birthday half marathon. So far, my mom and Danny, my boyfriend, are training to join me. If you are interested in joining me, start training and sign up today! Here's the link! http://www.thekauaimarathon.com/ As a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training, I am raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! The last season I particpated in, thanks to you (my friends and family) I was able to raise nearly $5,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and despite the current economy, I am hoping to surpass this amount. So, please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Please visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support! P.S. Please support Danny also. Here's the link to his page. http://pages.teamintraining.org/sf/kauai09/dmaloney |
