Week one and I am sore as a dog. Should not have maxed my legs out in the gym! grrr... (can't walk)
At least I'll look good in these new shoes! (I could choose any color as long as they were red)
Wish me luck, and thanks for reading!
PLANO — Micaela White, the Plano teen diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia last year who was featured in several News 8 reports, died just before 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The 18-year-old received a bone marrow transplant more than a month ago. She was diagnosed with the disease before Christmas in 2010.
Micaela had graduated from Ursuline Academy of Dallas this year and planned to attend the University of Oklahoma, where she was accepted.
Bourgeois told News 8 that Micaela left a deep impression. She managed to graduate with her class despite the challenges she was facing.
"She was humorous, trying to cheer me from a sick bed — that was Micaela," Bourgeois said. "I will always remember her."
My friend Lowell (far left) blood cancer survivor and his two sons.
This picture was taken with his two son's this past Father's Day, about 7 months after Lowell’s bone marrow transplant.
Kirk is in the middle, he is 22 and a student at the U of Maryland, Kyle is 25 and Lowell’s bone marrow donor, he is a Fairfax Co. Va. Police officer.
Lowell sent me this note when I asked him for a picture for my blog:
"Thank you for thinking of me and for doing what you are doing. Sitting in Johns Hopkins for those months and looking at all the people come and go made me realize that they have made great strides in treating lymphoma and it is not a death sentence. My type of lymphoma just a few years back had a very poor prognosis, but I am still among the 40% who have survived. However, we still have a long way to go."
Thank you Lowell for your inspiration!!
