As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Scleroderma in 2006. In 2008, I had a successful stem cell transplant in Chicago, IL. Today, my labs and tests show no active disease! While my disease was not cancer, the research done by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) contributed to the positive outcome of my transplant. I am one of the fortunate to have overcome my devastating disease. Now, I have a chance to give back and do something so more people can successfully overcome their diseases. I am training with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Team in Training (TNT) to find a cure for blood cancers so that others may have a happy ending like mine.

The research funded by LLS helps to find cures for all cancers!! (All the advances in bone marrow and stem cell transplants, led the way for MY transplant.) Because of the research that LLS is doing, a child diagnosed with Leukemia 50 years ago had a 4% survival rate. Today, there is over a 90% survival rate. Be a part of the cure and support me on my bike ride! Of the funds raised, 76% goes back into the mission of finding a cure for blood cancer and education.

This June 3rd, I will be challenging myself while doing my part for future generations and cycling “America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride” around Lake Tahoe. It is a challenging 100 mile bike ride in the mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe.

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.

So it's official. After 4 years of wishing, I am doing this. On June 3rd I will be participating in a century ride around Lake Tahoe. I will be raising $4100 for Team in Training in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

I have committed to do this, but there are many things still to be determined. For example, I still need to purchase a bike. The idea of biking 100 miles at one time, seems a little bit insane. Instead of focusing on all the reasons I can't do this, I will be focusing on one thing each day that I can do, which brings me closer to success... Today, I bought padded bike shorts. Tomorrow, I will go to team practice. On Sunday, I will rest. And so on.

I challenge you to attempt to do that which you believe to be impossible.
