Racing to Save Lives...
...And running in loving memory of Jeffrey Paul Beitzel
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
UPDATE: For those of you who don't know - I have officially committed to running the FULL marathon. Originally I signed up for a half marathon but secretly have been training for the full - and as long as my body holds up, I will complete 26.2 miles on race day!
I'm training to participate in the San Diego, CA Rock 'n' Roll Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. On June 6, 2010 I will run 26.2 miles in an effort to to raise funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
More specifically I am running in memory of my friend Jeff Beitzel who lost his hard fought battle with Leukemia on September 13, 2008.
Jeff was my role model, my mentor, my inspiration, and most importantly someone who I considered to be a great FRIEND. I would not be where I am today had it not been for God bringing Jeff into my life for the wonderful 8 years that I knew him. I am truly blessed to have had him be a part of my life, even if for only a moment.
I am running because even with him gone, life keeps on keeping on. I am running to keep his memory alive. I am running because inside I know he will be running right beside me. I am running because I know he would be proud. I am running because I miss him. And I am running to find a cure so others don't have to lose the "Jeff" in their life.
