Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I am a RN at Hahnemann University Hospital on the

Hematology/Oncology floor. I'm training to participate in an endurance

event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a

donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance

LLS's mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often.

Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your

support!

2/20/10

It was off the Valley Forge this morning at 8am for 4 miles. The weather was great! Still a little icy though. At one point I fell and hit my right knee. Ripped a hole in my favorite pants and have a lump on my knee, but I'm ok! My moitivation this morning was thinking of my patients who are fighting blood cancers. Sometimes they don't feel like getting their chemotherapy/treaments but they do it anyway....

2/24/10

Crazzy 12hrs at work today! Then ran 6 miles after work! My new running shoes are unbelieveable! Mizuno's all the way!

3/1/10

Good start to the week. 5 miles at Pennypack. Lots and lots of hills! Shoes are holding out great! During my run I was thinking of the patients who are experiencing blood cancers... That gave me the drive to be able to finish.

3/12/10

Group training coming up for this Sunday at Valley Green-6 miles! This week was good. Lots of running outside because of the beautiful weather. Hopefully there's more to come soon... Thankyou to everyone who has supported me so far! You all are now part of Team Rosie! and part of a very important endevour. If you know someone who I can donate a mile to please let me know...

3/14/10

So it was off to Valley Green this morning. Kinda got lost so I was 15 minutes late... I started off by myself, did 3miles in the rain and thunderstorm.(for those of you who know me, I've been afraid of thunderstorms since I was like 5 years old). But I pushed through. Thinking of all the people who are or have gone through treatment for blood cancers. Caught up with the rest of the team on the way back at the water stop and we supported and pushed each other to the finish 6 miles! Please pass on the word about my fundraising and encourage them to take part in my challenge

3/16

Had a great crosstraining day... 8 mile bike ride round Kelly Drive with my sis Callye. Then we did 1 1/2 hrs of yoga. Training is going well I would say... Don't forget to spread the word about my event! Thanks to all who have donated so far!

3/20

Wow! What a great group run on Kelly Drive this morning to complete 7 miles! Everyone was feeling great, I think because of the weather. Hope there's lots more to come. Every run I run I think "I wonder if I can do this"? Now I run knowing I can do this! For anyone who is experiencing blood cancer or you know someone who is I would like to dedicate miles to them. Shoot me an email with your/their story... rosalynhuf@gmail.com

4/3

Kelly Drive was great this morning. Had a good run with some good conversation about motivators and such... Having a fundraising event soon so check back to get info. Tell your friends, family, and co workers about my marathon and get them to become part of Team Rosie!

4/19

It's been a while since my last update.... Running is going great! Up to 8 miles! Check back for an update which will include miles Ive donated to certain people... Thankyou to everyone who has supported me so far... Still have a ways to go, so please spread the word...

5/3/10

Well I finish my first official race- the Broad Street run on Sunday. It was great! But I think it's only a small part of what San Diego will be like. Fundraising is slow. Trying to be creative to help bring in the $ to fund research to find a cure for blood cancer. Everyday at work I think about what I'm doing to help. And everyday I run I think about what I do at work. It's motivating to have the two linked in similarity.

5/16/10

10 miles done! Only one more long run which is next week at Valley Green. This one is 12 miles! The longest one yet. But I'm not worried because I have great teammates and coaches to get through. Also, I have my mission, why I'm doing this. That's what got me up this morning. All I wanted to do was sleep, but people who have blood cancer just want to get better and all I had to do was run. And run I did.

I met a patient at work who had a stem cell transplant in January 2010 on friday. The last time I saw him I was loosing hope. But hope is never lost. Because he looks amazing! He told me about this organization he applied to for financial aid with his medical bills. And how they approved him for $10,000. I was astounded. Guess which organization it was?? LLS! I have a renewed sense of my mission with Team In Training. Mile 12 is for you Gene.

6/10/10

Well I did it! I ran all 13.1 miles in the San Diego Marathon and 1/2 marathon. It was an amazing experience. I was so inspired for every mile. All the miles I dedicated to those of whom have or had blood cancer were ran for them. They gave me strength and hopefully my mission will give them and their families strength.

I am going to fundraise for two more events coming up in Philadelphia. The Phila Distance Run on September 19,2010 and the Philly Full Marathon on November 21, 2010.
