Tomorrow is the big day!!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for helping me achieve my goal and supporting me throughout this process!!! I have met (and exceeded) my fundraising minimum of $1200 thanks to your generousity. Every dollar adds up to a big difference for families afflicted by blood cancers in Utah and the research that improves their chances.

I ran far but slowly! 12 miles

This is the farthest we have run for training - 12 miles today at the Jordan River Trail. From here, we have 6 miles next weekend, 3 miles the following weekend, and then the event weekend!


I was slow. I ended up walking a good bit since my muscles were so sore. But I did the entire thing - and I'm proud of that. I'm really looking forward to the event, which is pretty much all down hill, haha. Also, I pretty much have ironed out what I should wear, how much I should eat, drink, sleep, etc. before a run. So I'm ready.

Rain Day!

The last two weeks I've been good about running, but not so good at updating this blog!! I went both of the previous Wednesdays and Satudays. Two Wednesdays ago, I even ran an extra lap around the park because I felt so good and it was so nice out. Then I had a great 8 mile run on the Jordan River trail last Saturday, and a pretty decent Wednesday night run (where I actually got an app to work on my phone! -- see link below).

I skipped yesterday's group run because it was in Park City and my car is so expensive to drive. And it was at 8am and I really needed the sleep. Today I'm going to try to run 8-10 miles, but I have to leave from my apartment because if I leave my parking garage, I won't be able to park my car when I get back. There are tens of thousands of latter day saints descending upon downtown SLC to attend general conference. Since the church owns my parking garage, they give free parking for the event, which leaves no room for the people who park there when they're going home.


Overall I'm happy with my progress. I've needed to rely on sports nutrition a little more than I had wanted, but it makes such a difference. You have the energy you need to pull through. I also got adjusted at the chiropractor this week so my hip wouldn't hurt while running. Apparently I was quite overdue.


I am nervous about raising the remainder of the funds-- I have five weeks until the half marathon and then 4 weeks afterwards before the deadline. That means I need to raise $100 per week until the marathon or $57 up until June 18. I hope I can do it!

Time to get serious!! 8 weeks until the race

Today is the first day I've been to the Saturday run for a month.


On March 2nd, my mom and Sherill were in town and the run was an 8 mile route in Draper. It would've taken me about half the day between driving there and doing the longer mileage, and I wanted to take full advantage of the weekend with them.


On March 9th, I decided not to do the run since I was sleep-deprived, I had gone to the run on Wednesday, and I realized that one of our fundraising events (cleaning up the Huntsman Center stadium) was that afternoon. When I had signed up, I thought it was on Sunday... I think this was a good choice as the people who did the run and the clean up were super sore.


Last week I was really sick. Despite feeling pretty terrible, I decided I would go to the run since I felt really bad about missing the two previous weeks. However, when I got to my car, my battery was dead. I called AAA but by the time the issue was resolved. I would've been an hour late to the run. And my nose was runny and gross.


So I went today!!! It's too close to the race for excuses. I still had a pretty gross runny nose today but I hope to be much better by next week. The hardest part is waking up and figuring out how much to eat and drink to strike the perfect balance between proper nutrition and not having to stop to pee! I decided that I need to keep an amex gift card or something on me when I'm running so I can go get water/use the restroom in businesses and buy something small so they don't feel used.


I've looked at my calendar and I have no conflicts until the date of the Ogden marathon (May 18) except my brother coming into town April 12-14. Depending on what he wants to do, maybe I can go run and he can take my car somewhere or sleep in. But that's the only weekend I'm allowing myself to miss in the future!


Today's run started in Sugar House parking and went through my old stomping grounds, along 15th East all the way to the corner of the U. It was so nice to run through Sugar House and Harvard/Yale because it's such a pretty area and I''m looking to move back.


My goal is to run on Wednesday and Saturday for all the upcoming group runs. The weather this year and my general busy schedule has provided a lot of excuses thus far, but I need to hunker down, train, and remember that after May 18, I can sleep in on Saturdays again!

Wednesday Night Run!

Today was the first time I ran on a week night. Spring is in the air, it's finally not freezing, and it stays light out long enough for me to attend the run after work.


I tried keeping up with one of my teammates who is doing Iron Man Cozumel this Fall. That only lasted a mile, haha...


Each time I go, I'm glad I did, and I can't wait to do even better on upcoming runs!
