Cycling with a Purpose

We did it!
Oct 19, 2011 by Maria Elena Ibarra

103 miles, 95F degree weather, 5,200 ft of elevation (who knew Vegas was hilly?) and a wrong turn later we all crossed the finish line!

Why do we do what we do? Because work must continue to find a cure. Breakthrough treatments take many years to develop. This year's survivors are a direct result of research findings started 20 years ago.

My sister has a high probability of being cured because someone had the foresight to start research on finding a cure for blood cancer. Let's keep those researchers busy!

Thank you for doing your part!

Meet the Team
Oct 09, 2011 by Maria Elena Ibarra

This is the Fabulous Viva Bike Vegas team, 20 warriors who collectively raised over $42,000 with the unyielding support of friends and family like you.

We have the honor of being the only team representing Team In Training and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in this event. Through your donation you became part of something special, not only are you helping find a cure, you are also shaping the way of future Team In Training programs.

We'll make you proud. Thanks for everything you do.

The Purple Skull
Oct 02, 2011 by Maria Elena Ibarra

No, it is not a Halloween decoration.

This is a tradition started by coach DJ on one of his earlier cycle teams.

The Purple Skull is an award to recognize an individual’s accomplishment in the previous week’s ride. It’s to recognize the courage and determination needed to complete a program like this. I am the proud recipient of Purple Skull this week.

I was recognized for being there every Saturday, supporting fellow teammates and doing it with a smile. For those of you who know me, being good humored in the morning does not come naturally. Especially when I have to be ready to ride at 6:45AM :)

I sure needed a little extra encouragement as we tackled our longest ride of the season.

91 miles along the beautiful San Diego coast.

Mostly flat, which means every single mile had to be pedaled. I am a little bit sore today.

The last push

September 24, 2011

My teammate Don and I up Scripps Poway on the day we completed 85 miles and 4,800ft of elevation. Yesterday we did a shorter 65 mile ride, 4,400ft and finished without a problem. Next weekend we have our longest ride of the season, 93 miles from San Diego north to the county line with Orange County and back.

Next week is also our deadline for fundrasing. If you were meaning to donate now is the time. Click on the "DONATE NOW" button on the right side of the screen -->>

Thank you for a wonderful season and on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society thank you for your generous support. You have helped raise over $32,000 on this event alone.

A face to a name
Sep 11, 2011 by Maria Elena Ibarra

When leukemia has a face,

it changes the way you relate to it,

when the face is related to you

it is life changing.

We need to find a cure.
