WELCOME TO MY TEAM IN TRAINING (TNT) HOME PAGE!
HI! Did you miss me??? ;-) In 2006 I did my first TNT event - the 5430 Sprint Triathlon in Boulder. You never know it at the time, but that year was the start of some big changes and little did I know, I was a part of something that would help me down the line. (No, I don't personally have blood cancer... but keep reading for the story! I promise I'll keep it short(ish).)
1) From 2006-2012 I worked with TNT as a participant fundraiser (marathon, century ride, triathlons) and became a triathlon coach because I fell in love with endurance sports. I met sooooo many amazing people, and those connections have led me on many adventures!
2) I became a professional coach to endurance athletes. Yep, love it so much it pays bills! (I do it part time now, but for reasons that will make sense soon.)
3) The big breakthrough that was talked about in my "early time" with TNT was a drug called Rituximab. This is my connection... in 2014 I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and learned that an off-label treatment for MS was Rituximab. While I didn't start on that (went with an approved medication), in 2017 a new drug called Ocrelizumab was FDA approved, and Ocrelizumab is just a more humanized form (vs mouse DNA...) of Rituximab, and I began on that treatment in December of 2017. Small world, or something!
4) Some awesome TNT peeps on Team Survivor ride on my Bike MS team (one being a blood cancer survivor!), so this year I'm back raising funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society! Full circle?
So here's the deal.... by participating as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) TNT, I am raising funds to help find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients.
Your donation will help fund treatments that save lives every day; like immnuotherapies that use a person’s own immune system to kill cancer. You may not know it, but every single donation helps save a life with breakthrough therapies such as these. Patients need these cures and they need your support. (I'm essentially a beneficiary of hard work done a couple decades ago, so I'm giving back!)
