The story of a boy....
Dec 16, 2011

When it is dark enough, you can see the stars..

This is an older picture of Keith and Cherish -

Christie treated him to ice cream for father's day in 2006. It has always been one of my favorite pixs of the two of us cause in true Keith fashion, he's about to insist that I eat a big scoop of his icecream. I don't think we ever got through a single meal together without him reaching over the table with a fork/spoon full of food and insisting that I try it...

"My beautiful love, be free and suffer no more. I love you"

by Cherish Nielsen

This is a story of boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, boy marries girl, they live happily ever

No....because of something called “Non Hodgkin Ana-plastic Large Cell Lymphoma”.

Keith was diagnosed on October 7, 2011 with this rare type of cancer, and lost his battle on December 15, 2011, and this world has lost one of its many wonderful people -Keith wanted everyone to know that HE BEAT HIS CANCER. Keith did not pass away from the lymphoma but from the complications of having a compromised immune system as a result of chemotherapy. It is actually the cure that caused his passing.

Keith kept a blog or journal of his journey from his first diagnosis with some type of cancer to document his thoughts, feeling and to inform all of his concerned and loving friends and family of the facts and details of the battle ahead of him. At his side is his loving wife Cherish, all of the way - having to keep the situation on a realistic level, supporting him every step of the way and being his caretaker. She demonstrated strength that she didn't even know she had. She says he is the Ying to her Yang!!

On July 31, 2011 -Cherish donated her services of her photography studio to my fundraiser for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She spent her day taking pictures of people eating, drinking and listening to a band that also donated their servies to help raise money for our cause. Little did she know that in less than 6 weeks she would be even more connected than she would ever imagine. The LLS has made major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and the money raised by volunteers goes directly to research and patient servies.

At her request, in lieu of flowers for Keiths service, she has asked for people to make donations to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Keith would have wanted it that way she said.

I have been involved with the LLS since 2005 and will continue my questfor a cure til we have saved every life from this devastating disease. With the passing of another life - my commitment strengthens.

I will be training to compete in my first Triathlon in Sleepy Hollow new York on June 24, 2012. I have complete 12 marathon/half marathons through Team In Training but I am now undertaking a new challenge. The course is a .5 mile SWIM - 12 mile BIKE - 3 mile RUN. This will be a test of my physical, mental and spiritual strengths. Over the next 6 months I will be fundraising for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

What are blood cancers?

Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma are cancers that originate in the bone marrow and lymphatic tissues. Cancers have two features in common: cells that are abnormal because of altered DNA and cells that accumulate in excessive amounts.

Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma are considered to be related cancers because they involve the uncontrolled growth of cells with related functions and origins. The diseases result from an acquired genetic injury to the DNA of a single cell, which becomes abnormal (malignant) and multiplies continuously. The accumulation of malignant cells interferes with the body’s production of healthy blood cells and makes the body unable to protect itself against infection.
