My Fundraising Page

Oh wow!
Aug 02, 2012 by Brittany Renkel

October 14th is getting SO close and I'm still not even half way to my fundraising goal - it's scary to think that I might have to scale back my plans and my fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and maybe run a race a bit closer to home this time.

I don't want to do it and I WON'T do it! I WILL raise all of my funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society - I WILL help save lives - I WILL cross that finish line in San Francisco!

Can you help? Donate over there! --------->

I've had people ask me recently about why I love the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society so much and why I've decided to take on the challenge to raise so much money and train for a half marathon. Two words - "Cancer Sucks."

I've been touched this week by the stories of two cancer survivors (one with Lymphoma and another with Breast Cancer) and now I'm feeling even more driven to make a difference.

I'm not a fundraising guru who can put together banquets or fundraisers that bring in tens of thousands of dollars; especially not in a strange city! I think we all need to work with the talents the big G-O-D gave us. Mine happens to be being goofy and making people laugh. So that's what I do.

I'm challenging my friends and family to donate just $5 (or more!) to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through this page by Monday 7/30 at 5pm EST. I just need THREE people to donate and I'm going to pull out all the stops and get in costume for...

I'll post the video on Facebook and here and hopefully give you a little laugh. I'm in the process of making a cone bra as we speak, so don't let LLS down! Donate today!

You came through!

A HUGE thank you to 5 of my Facebook friends who responded to my challenge yesterday! To recap - I asked that five of my friends donate $5 or more in a 24 hour window and I would grant the world of Facebook and my Team in Training website my rendition of "Baby Got Back."

Well - like I said, my friends came through! So, now I need to follow through on my end of the fun:

Baby got BACK!
Jul 17, 2012 by Brittany Renkel

My mother and I share something that's not a cute facial feature or manorisms or even something non-physical like our fantastic senses of humor. Nope. We should I say this...pancake-esque posteriors. Yes. That'll work.

Since I've been running, however, my pancake booty is starting to change, ever so slightly, into a cute butt that actually fills out some jeans! SCORE! See, running doesn't only give you AMAZING legs, killer endurance and a pile of sweaty clothes to wash every gives you things you couldn't even imagine - for me, that's a butt.

Now, you may be saying to yourself "Woah - Britt, TMI, sweetheart" but, you know me. I have very little shame when it comes to things I'm passionate about and while I was thinking of ways to help bring in some money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, I kept having "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix a Lot run though my head.

I realized that I should put my skills to work for me so I can help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. So, I'm doing it. If I can get 5 donations of $5 or more by 3pm (EST) on 7/18 - I will post a YouTube video here and on Facebook of me doing some killer karaoke to Sir Mix a Lot's "Baby Got Back."

I assure you. You don't want to miss this. DONATE TODAY!

Officially a North Carolinian
Jul 15, 2012 by Brittany Renkel

Well, with the creation of my NC Team in Training page, I feel like an official North Carolinian! We've been here for just over two weeks and I can't be happier with this move. Brian loves his job, the scenery is beautiful (especially for running!) and my TNT team is filled with amazing and motivating people. I love it here!

One of my first TNT friends here is also the reason I'm now even more invested in the fight against blood cancers. Her father has cancer and recently found out he'd need to go through another 5 rounds of chemo - each round costing $45,000. Yes. That's three zeros. For EACH treatment. Thankfully he's got great insurance, but what about those who don't?

LLS supports more than just cancer research, they help those with these diseases cover costs and gives patients and their families valuable information about what exactly they're going up against. It's an amazing thing to know that the Leukemia and Lymphoma society depends completely on donations and is able to help save lives the way they do. I'm so incredibly excited and motivated to help this cause.

So please, if you have the opportunity, help me help the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society wipe out these blood cancers and continue the great work they do. It's amazing what just $5 can do.

"Hey Britt, this is for the "Baby Got Back" youtube video. Although I am a TNT participant and I am raising money for the same cause, I just couldn't pass up the chance to get a big ole laugh out of the embarrassment of a fellow TNT participants..since you are not here for me to torture you on our runs anymore..this is the best way!"
