"If you keep at it, one day something which at first appeared impossible will become merely something very difficult indeed."

I have some exciting news! Now through the end of the year I will be fundraising to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in their mission to end blood cancers. This exciting journey will end in running the Walt Disney World Marathon in Orlando, Florida with my sister Julie. On January 10, 2010 we will run a 26.2 mile course that will take us through all five of the Walt Disney World theme parks.

Why am I doing this?

In January of 1984, just over a month after her thirty-sixth birthday, and nearly eighteen years after her diagnosis, my mother Eileen lost her battle with lymphoma. Like so many others taken too soon by cancer, Eileen left behind her family; two little girls (aged six and four), a husband, her parents, and a brother, just to name a few.

Over 139,000 Americans are diagnosed with blood related cancers each year, and every nine minutes a patient dies. With your help, a cure can be found! It is my sincerest hope that one day there will be no more children losing parents to these cancers, no more spouses losing their partners, no more parents losing their children, no more brothers and sisters losing their siblings.

When Julie approached me earlier this summer with the suggestion that we run in the Disney event in memory of Mom, we were initially considering running the half marathon. When we realized that the twenty sixth anniversary of her death is a week after the race, we took it as a sign to go for it, and run the full 26.2 miles. That day, "Team Eileen" was born.

I have personally committed to raising $4,000 for the LLS. As a team, Julie and I aim to raise $6,400.

We can't do it without your support!

I am hoping you will consider making a $26 dollar donation in memory of Eileen and the 26th anniversary of her passing. Every little bit helps, so please know that whatever your donation may be, it is much appreciated. Donations are 100% tax deductible and 75% goes directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society's mission: finding a cure for blood cancers and improving the quality of life for patients and their families. Please pass the word on to your family, friends, and coworkers who may be interested in donating, and please ask your employer about matching charitable donations, you may be surprised at how generous they may be. If you are unable to donate at this time, please send us your positive energy!

I'd love to have my fundraising goal met by Christmas. I hope you'll visit this page often for updates on our progress!

Thank you so much for your support. Julie and I will be thinking of your generosity when we cross the finish line together in January. GO TEAM EILEEN!

With love and gratitude,

Jessica Warner

"Hi Jessica- As you may or may not know, I lost my wife Karen to cancer a little over three years ago. In her particular case it was breast cancer, but I think anyone who has lost someone to cancer shares a certain camaraderie. Good luck with your run. I am very sorry that you missed out on so many years with your mother, but I have to imagine that she'd be proud of what you're doing in her memory."
