I know you guys are waiting anxiously for all my updates on my training, so here goes. I've been a bit preoccupied for the last weeks with issues at work, but I haven't let that affect my training for the Sea Gull. For the week starting on July 3, I put in 116 miles, with rides of 37, 28 and 31, along with a couple of shorter rides. My strength is getting better, but cycling can be so humbling. Most of my teammates are strong riders with years of experience on me. It keeps me striving to get better.
It also humbles me that I can do this in honor of those impacted by cancers. I will keep on training and fund raising. If you have already donated, thank you again. If you haven't please follow my link and give what you can. Remember, the money you donate can make a huge difference in the life of a cancer patient.
Thanks for reading,
Stu
This week finds me already having ridden close to 50 miles, starting with a 25 mile TNT ride on Sunday. The day dawned with a truly intimidating rainstorm, but after checking the weather and my e-mail to see if the ride was still on, it was off to ride.
Only two team members, myself and a TNT veteran, Kim, were up for the ride this weekend, and considering the cloudy cool weather, I'm not sure I blame them. Kim was the designated ride leader, and she really pushed me past my limit. I have mostly been doing about 10-12 miles on my own, so 25 at my max pace (Slow, really slow, almost never gets there slow ;-0) really left me gasping. It was definitely a good ride, but I really need to start pushing my miles up on my solo rides. School ends next week so that will happen soon.
I rode an easy solo yesterday, just trying to spin the legs loose, and today I rode with my son, Steven. He's not up to long and fast (though we're working on it) so it was a lower paced ride with several hills.
The forecast for the rest of the week is hot!, I'll have to seriously consider the option of simulated miles on the trainer as opposed to heat stroke. Check back in soon for further updates and thanks for visiting my site!
Hello my friends and supporters,
Just wanted to jump in and thank everybody for the words of encouragement and the generous support. So far I have raised substantial funds and I am very positive about my ability to reach my goals.
As for training, I have been out riding nearly everyday. I can feel myself getting much stronger on the bike and hills that were kicking my rear just a couple of weeks ago are now just another step on my rides. And now the summer heat has hit here in Maryland with a vengeance. With highs in the low 90s with high humidity, I am still out riding, but being careful with plenty of water and a moderate pace.
Keep checking back on my progress, and thanks again for your support.
Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
