Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

Hello,

I am Bridget McGee, also known as Maryland Mortgage Mama. I hope you will take a few minutes to learn about what I am doing by reading below.

As many of you know I have lost many family members to several different types of cancers. To name just a few... Not only did my Mom die of colon cancer at 51, and my Dad die of stomach cancer at 61, I have have lost two aunts to breast cancer, two uncles, a cousin, and my grandfather to various types of cancers.

Many are still fighting, most thank God are winning the fight!...One of my best friends, a young mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at 33. Several of my cousins have been diagnosed, Aunt Kate had 1/3 of her colon removed a few years ago and Uncle Joe and Aunt Ellen have had melanomas removed. My Aunt Ellen, at 90, just found a malignant tumor on her hand. Cancer has taken toll on our family and too many others. I am racing to save lives, won't you help?

(1/31 UPDATE-Aunt Ellen is doing great. They were able to remove the malignancy and the cancer had not spread to the lymph nodes!)

I chose to participate in the Iron Girl Triathlon in August because I want to prove to myself that I can do this. I want to be my daughter's hero. I want to make a better time than I did in June 2010 at the Assateague Assault, I knew I couldn't do it on my own. In my search for help I found the Team in Training. While I will get the help I need to finish strong, I will be able to help save lives, but I need your help to do that.

I am racing for a little girl who was diagnosed with Leukemia at 4 years old. Now, just a few years older than my daughter Sydney, she is in remission. I want to help find a cure so no other children, no other families have to go through what her family went through. My goal is to honor her with each step, each stroke, each mile. Cancer sucks no matter if you are 4, 33 or 90. I am racing for these folks and all those affected.

I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! A step closer in any cancer research will be a step closer to knocking out all types of cancers.

If you are like me, your mailbox is filled these days with pleas for help, for money, for support for truly worthy causes. Facebook and blogging sites are overflowing with pleas. Even though I make a personal donation to charity with every loan closing, my fundraising goal is a lofty one. I need your help. I hope you will consider one more donation, even $5 or $10 will help get me closer to my goal. If you are "tapped" out" right now, please consider putting me on your pledge list for the first half of 2011.

Be on the lookout for opportunities for you to join me in fun ways. Plans are in the works for an event with One Third Wish, Change for Change, and you can even sponsor me per pound lost throughout my training.

I will appreciate any support you can give me. Can you help planning a fundraising event, training, cheerleading, prayers? Anything will help!

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
