WELCOME TO MY TEAM IN TRAINING (TNT) HOME PAGE!
So here's the thing, if you are on this fundraising page, you already likely know my story and connection to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You know that when I was three and a half I was diagnosed with A.L.L. and underwent over two years of intense chemotherapy treatments.
You know I have a phobia of needles because of curling up into a ball and getting dozens of spinal taps. You know that when I smell rubber gloves my brain is triggered and I get all anxious like I am in a hospital again. You know I danced at my recitals with a chemo burn on my wrist.
You know this about me, because you know me, love me, and have unwaveringly supported me.
You have watched me grow, run, raise money, and in 2017 you likely supported my herculean efforts to become the Massachusetts Woman of the Year. Remember that?! Remember when I was relentless asking for your support and together we raised $110,503 in ten weeks?!
I do. Because we did it!
You also watched me drop off the face of the planet after celebrating at the Woman of the Year finale surrounded by my friends and family.
Why?
Well many of you reading this also know that just a week after we collectively hit a new fundraising record, the stats that I have rattled off time and time again…hit our family.
Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer
Every 9 minutes someone dies from a blood cancer
LLS funded blood cancer research translates into lifesaving treatments for many other types of cancers
Boom. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Cancer doesn’t discriminate. Cancer doesn’t care how much money you have JUST raised.
This past year I put my head down while I took the reins of our business. I put my head down while I sat next to mom during each chemo infusion. I put my head down while we went to shave her head. I put my head down as we made healing broth and Lysoled the house before and after each visitor.
This past year cancer was no longer just part of our family history; cancer was our daily reality.
It sucked. A lot.
Chemo and radiation ended and were followed by clean scans.
I picked my head up and slowly started reconnecting with the world again.
I could finally breathe again.
So naturally I turn my attention back to the one grounding action I can take. I can make a difference. I am training for another Team in Training event and in doing so, I am asking for your continued support.
This year Team in Training celebrates its 30th year. And guess what? I celebrate my 30th year of being cancer free!
The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Last year the FDA approved 18 new drugs for all cancer treatments. LLS touched 15 out of these 18 drugs with their research and support.
To support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is to support ALL cancer research and advancements
On Sunday November 4th I will be running in the Disney Wine and Dine (because, food at the end…hello!).
Thank you for supporting me.
Thank you for supporting my mom.
Thank you for supporting whoever you may know who has been touched by cancer.
One day I will be able to stop asking for your donations. Today is not that day but with the help of LLS, we are one step closer.
In love and tacos*,
Sally
