The moment of truth is coming soon... Sunday, June 3rd in San Diego will be one of the best days of my life! My team and I have trained so hard for this moment, I know we're going to be crossing that finish line with huge smiles on our faces. Perks of training happy!
Here are some photos from the season. Can you tell I'm having fun?
Two weekends ago I ran 19 miles. This upcoming Saturday is our last big run before the marathon and everytime I think about it, my heart starts racing a million beats per second. I have this overwhelming feeling of excitment, nervousness, and accomplishment. For a while I was fearing the unknown. Can I even do this? Who in their right mind signs up to run 26.2 miles?! I could still live without legs, right?
But I've realized that running a marathon isn't like ripping off a band-aid. You don't just do it right away to escape the pain. You bathe in the pain. You feel it in your knees, ankles, hips, necks, shoulders... It is a constant reminder of hard work. The pain lies in your training schedule. And as cliche as it is: NO PAIN, NO GAIN. When you're training to run a marathon, fearing pain is not an option. You have to embrace it.
I've taken my fear and channeled it into stregnth. I'm feeling more and more confident every day. I will cross that finish line with a huge smile on my face and sweat dripping from my pores. I'll be reminded that I've not only done something amazing for myself, but I've raised over $2,000 for life-saving blood cancer research. Keyword: Life-Saving.
And with the support of my friends and family, I have nothing to fear. Not even fear itself.
This just in: I've decided to run the full marathon instead of the half!
That's right, 26.2 miles of amazingness.
Last week we ran for 1 hour and 20 minutes. My foot is still a little sore but I felt great. Go team!

So far, I have raised $1,718.60 that will help fund livesaving blood cancer research :)
Only $481.40 to go until I reach my goal!
(Ha!)
Thank you all so much for the donations! So far you and I have raised $575 (I still have some checks to turn in)! And as a team, we've raised $19,282.72!
I listed a couple of reasons why to donate in my last post, but here are a few more things your donation can help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society do:
Encourage scientists to pursue blood cancer research
Develop "targeted therapies" that kill cancer cells selectively
Test immunotherapies.
As the weeks go on, I will expand and add more :)
Unfortunately, my foot/ankle has been injured this last week and I've been advised to rest for at least 7 days. It's really not that bad but I'd like to be in good shape for the rest of the season. I guess that's what happens when you've sprained your ankle at least 7 times.
Check back every week or so for updates! Here are two of my recorded runs so far (I'll try to record our runs every Saturday):
Week 2:
Week 3:
(Not even a swollen foot can stop me!)
Peace & Love,
Jill
