Memory Miles
Dec 20, 2016 by Jenny Houlroyd

There are 19 days until the Disney Marathon. That number- it sticks with me because my Aunt Patricia was only 19 when she died from leukemia. I will be dedicating mile 19 during my run to her. Want me to dedicate a mile to someone you love? Let me run a mile in someone else’s shoes. All I am looking for in a donation matching the mile- so mile 1- donate $1- and I will run a mile for someone you love. (Let me know when you donate in the comments and I will update my list.)

The sweet girl on the left if my Aunt Pat, the one in the middle is my mom (recognize a resemblance with Jo?), and the one on the right is my Uncle Jeff.

Running in Memory of Those Lost
Aug 28, 2016 by Jenny Houlroyd

This right here is part of the 2017 Disney Marathon Team for the Georgia Chapter of Team in Training. Never have I met such an inspiring group of people. As we run through Atlanta, what I am learning is how my teammates lives have been impacted by cancer- dads, mothers, sisters, brother, and friends fighting for their lives or gone to soon. The steps they take are for the memory of their loved ones.

For me, I am impowered to hear their stories. The run with conviction and passion, but more than anything else, they run with purpose. So far our team has raised $17,000! I have some work to do raise the money I commited to raise.

Running with a Purpose
Aug 20, 2016 by Jenny Houlroyd

Today was the kickoff of the Team in Training group going to Disney. Guess what? I found my tribe, a tribe of runners who all want to make a difference in the world.

What a group of amazing, thoughtful, courageous people! I cried, I laughed, and I ran.

I more excited than ever to be a part of such a worthy cause- to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Most of the time when I have told people in the past I was training for a marathon they would ask, "Why?" Before, I would always just answer, "I just want to do it." Upon which, I would get the stink eye from them, knowing they thought I was slightly crazy.

Now, though, I can say, "I'm running to raise money for cancer research." And that, my friends, would make me crazy not to run, if running means finding a cure.

So with every step and every mile, I will run with a purpose and think of those who fought or are fighting right now. Because, at least if I am going to do something crazy like run another marathon, I might as well do it to make a difference in someone's life.

I'm Running the Disney Marathon in 2017!
Apr 21, 2016

I am so excited to have just signed up with TNT! You see, way back in 2003, I ran the Disney Marathon. It was my first marathon. I was young, naive, and not as well trained as I thought. At the start, I was lucky enough to meet up and make friends with another runner. It was also Heather's her first marathon, and she was running for TNT. We decided to run together. As the miles wore on, what kept me going was Heather's "Go Team" attitude she had as a TNT runner. She inspired me to finish, but she also inspired me to look into training with TNT when I was ready to run another marathon.

More than having a team to train with, I am passionate about the Team in Training organization and how they raise research dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I know my life has been personally affected by loved ones with cancer. My mom's sister died of leukemia when my mom was just a child. I never got to meet her. And her absense is felt to this day in my mom's heart. I don't know a single person whose life hasn't been affected by cancer.

I can't wait to run the Disney Marathon in January 2017 as if someone's life depends on it.

It takes more than one person to make up a team and that’s why I’m asking you to donate to my TNT fundraising page for TNT!

By participating as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) TNT, I am raising funds to help find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients.

Your donation will help fund treatments that save lives every day; like immunotherapies that use a person’s own immune system to kill cancer. You may not know it, but every single donation helps save a life with breakthrough therapies such as these.

Patients need these cures and they need your support.

Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help get us all closer to a world without blood cancers.

Thank you!
