The Training Is On!
Jun 10, 2017 by Haley Meadows

Today was the first day of training, the first step in a long journey.  I have to say that it was amazing and daunting at the same time. I met so many people who are on this same journey that I am on.  We have all come from different, backgrounds and experiences, but we are here together running for a cure.

The daunting part of today was that I started training to run 13.1 miles!! I was taught about my stride and how it is supposed to be "easy".  So far it is not easy, but the support that I have from my team and the goal that we have makes me more motivated to keep going.  Thanks to my coaches and team for being there for me!  Together we can do this!

What Can We Do?
May 31, 2017 by Haley Meadows

When I was little, every Christmas I looked forward to the Samaritan's Purse catalog because I could specifically see where my money was going. The breakdown can also be seen with LLS.  The money raised makes a specific and tangible difference. See below how your money can make a difference in people lives.

$50 - $999

  • $50 helps fund LLS educational booklets for healthcare providers and their patients.
  • $100 helps fund the Patti Robinson Kaufmann First Connection Program, a peer-to-peer program that matches newly diagnosed patients and their families with trained volunteers.
  • $150 helps the LLS Information Resource Center provide the latest information on blood cancers to patients and their families.
  • $150 helps fund general lab supplies for one week to help LLS-funded researchers conduct laboratory work needed to develop blood cancer treatments.
  • $250 helps support the LLS Co-Pay Assistance Program, which helps eligible patients with qualifying diagnoses pay their insurance premiums and meet co-pay obligations.
  • $300 helps fund one week of LLS-sponsored group support for families dealing with blood cancer treatment.
  • $500 helps defray the costs of treatment-related travel for a patient.

$1,001 - $10,000

  • $1,000 provides assistance for a year of PCR testing for a CML patient.
  • $1,000 helps fund clinical trial enrollment support for an LLS clinical specialist for one week.
  • $1,500 helps fund an LLS-funded investigator for one week.
  • $2,000 helps promote patient education and healthcare professional programs.
  • $2,000 funds the work of an LLS-funded research fellow for two weeks.
  • $2,000 funds one week of research for an LLS-funded expert in the blood cancer field.
  • $2,500 can provide a year of co-pay assistance to an eligible blood cancer patient.
  • $5,000 helps an LLS chapter fund a full-day blood cancer education seminar.

$10,000 +

  • $10,000 allows a donor to direct funding to one of nine disease-specific research portfolios.
  • $55,000 funds an LLS-funded research fellow’s training for a year.
Why We Run
May 20, 2017 by Haley Meadows

Running! Something that I used to think was crazy.  People would talk about going for a run FOR FUN!  It was completely insane that anyone would want to do that.  Well, at this point it has now been about 4 years since I did my first run and I have to say, I am hooked.  However, I never thought that I would do an endurance run. I was struggling to make it a few miles.

I have now found my motivation to go the distance, running to help fight cancer.  I am running the Savannah Rock & Roll 1/2 Marathon in November because of cancer touches almost everyone's life.

It is estimated that 1.2 million people in the U.S. are living with or in remission of a blood cancer.

For me, it is also personal. I still remember when I was told that my 4 year old cousin Tatum had Leukemia.  I didn't know anything about it, all I knew was that it was cancer and it was scary.

There were lots of prayers that went up for her and many treatments that were tried.  I am delighted to say that Tatum has now been in remission for many years, she is excelling as school, loves photography, and has a bright future. It is in her honor that I am running.

I am running, putting myself out there, pushing beyond what I thought was possible.  But my struggles are nothing compaired to what millions of people face everyday.  Join me in this fight to put an end to cancer.

We Run because We Believe there is a Cure!

It takes more than one person to make up a team and that’s why I’m asking you to donate to my TNT fundraising page for TNT!

By participating as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) TNT, I am raising funds to help find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients.

Your donation will help fund treatments that save lives every day; like immnuotherapies that use a person’s own immune system to kill cancer. You may not know it, but every single donation helps save a life with breakthrough therapies such as these.

Patients need these cures and they need your support.

Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help get us all closer to a world without blood cancers.

Thank you!
