Why I Swim, Bike and Run

In June 2016 our family found out that my mom’s cancer had returned and she had about a year to live.  I remember feeling helpless and thinking how can this be happening. When she passed away a little over a month later we were devastated and stunned that there was nothing we could do to have prevented this.  Now a year later and I still can’t believe she is gone, but I refuse to give the feeling of helplessness any more of my time.

I have decided yet again to channel my energy into raising money to help find a cure for cancer. Next summer I will be traveling to Mont-Tremblant Quebec to swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles and run 13.2 miles.  Again I will be partnering with Team in Training to prepare to take on this beautiful race with a picturesque lake swim, 2,500 feet of climbing elevation on the bike and a challenging run which will see me running uphill the final miles to the finish.

For this season I have set a goal of raising $2,500 and I am reaching out to you, my friends and family to support me in this endeavor. As I have paid for my own race entry and will be covering all travel expense the money I raise will go directly towards funding research and providing family services to cancer fighters.  Also, your donation will help fund treatments that save lives every day; like immunotherapies that use a person’s own immune system to kill cancer. This is why any donation – big or small – will make a huge difference!

On this site, you can watch my progress as I begin training for this challenging race, receive updates on my fundraising efforts or even make a secure, 100% tax deductible donation.

I appreciate everyone’s support and look forward to sharing this season with you.
Thank you!
Danielle

"In the 50's, I grew up on the same street w/Daye Walter Mota, of the Hollywood Riviera, n Redondo Beach, CA. We used to play together & we both attended the same elementary school & high school too. As we grew up & moved on in our lives, we found each other on Facebook, & we got caught up on the years past. I found out, that Daye was going through cancer but I didn't know just how bad things were going, until her passing! Daye wasn't a complainer, @ least not w/me. She told me how much she loved Tom & that she loved her family too. I let her know, that I was praying that she would b rid of cancer once & for all! This disease has robbed so many people of their lives & their loved ones too! I know this, b-cuz I lost my husband n 2012 to esophageal cancer & what he went through, like Daye & so many others...is unacceptable to me!!! I pray that the word, "cancer" will no longer b a word or disease that we know of but rather in the past from long ago & gone forever! Sending love ❤️ "
