Cycling For A Cure!
Pictured above is my insipration of the week, Lily. Lily is a seven year old girl who enjoys ice skating, reading, dance, arts & crafts, playing the piano and singing! In May of 2009 Lily was preparing for an ice skating competition in NYC when she was having pain in her legs. Eventually, Lily’s legs hurt so badly she was unable to walk. After visiting the orthopedist, Lily was sent to Sloan Kettering for more testing. After multiple tests the doctors were able to diagnose the condition in her legs, which is called hyper-calcimia. This is when an elevated amount of calcium in the blood tears down the bones creating lesions, thus weakening the bones. After a few biopsies, the doctors determined the hyper-calcimia was created from Leukemia (ALL). Lily began treatment immediately.
Lily’s treatment has been a rollercoaster, with good weeks and bad weeks.
Unfortunately Lily is unable to attend school for fear of H1N1 and other viruses. She has missed school and other events with her friends, but she talks with them on the phone and/or skype. When her blood counts are good, she’ll have an occasional play date. Lily is looking forward to continuing her schoolwork at home, and most importantly staying healthy. The treatment is 2 years total, and we are 1/3 of the way through, with quite a ways to go. The first item on Lily’s agenda is to go on a Disney Cruise and meet Salina Gomez. Next she wants to go visit her friends in Switzerland, see Hershey park & Sesame Street Land.
I'm training to participate in America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. On June 6, 2010, I will be cycling 100 miles around Lake Tahoe in honor and in memory of those who have battled cancer.
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. As a staff member for LLS for almost 4 years I have met some extraordinary people that are survivors, patients, supporters and even those that have lost their battle. These people have impacted my life more than they will ever know and I hope to honor many of them by completing my second event for TNT. These people are real heroes, and I need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.Thank you in advance for any contribution you make, no donation is too small!
I hope you will visit my web site often.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your
support!
