The countdown continues to the Team In Training hike event in Columbia River Gorge! On Sunday, May 22, I'll be hiking 6 miles on the Columbia Hills-Vista Trail, raising awareness of blood cancers and funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Please keep one of my honored heroes, Angelique Pihl, in your thoughts and prayers. Angelique is the daughter of Sonja Lewis Blake, and she's battling Stage IV lymphoma and could use your positive energy!
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS) is a global leader in the fight against cancer. It mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS provides co-pay assistance and support groups, education for medical professionals, as well as funding lifesaving blood cancer research around the world.
LLS funds the most promising scientific advances, including targeted therapies like imaginic, bortezomib and ibrutinib that take aim at cancer cells, and destroy them. Immunotherapies use a patient's own immune system to kill cancer -- and these treatments have saved the lives of patients battling other forms of cancer including breast cancer.
Join me as a virtual teammate by making a donation to LLS in support of cancer patients like Angelique! Your gift, in any amount, is needed and appreciated. Thank you for your support!
GO TEAM!

In 2020, family, friends, and our Tucson community lost a truly selfless, loving and exemplary woman when Mary Greene lost her battle with lymphoma. I am grateful to Mary for her leadership, her mentorship, her wisdom and her guidance over the 30+ years I had the privilege to know her and call her my friend.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has invested over $1.5 BILLION dollars in research since 1949; provided more than $431 MILLION dollars in co-pay assistance to cancer patients; and helped advance 85% of the blood cancer treatment options advanced by the FDA since 2017. I became involved in fundraising for LLS when my brother-in-law, Buck Lauer, was taken from us far too soon after a 3 1/2 year fight with multiple myeloma.
On Sunday, May 22, I'll be hiking in the Columbia River Gorge with Team In Training, raising awareness of blood cancers and after raising funds in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Mary will be an honored hero of mine as I make the trek on my trail assignment: Columbia Hills + Vista Loop Trail via Entry Road. Cancer fighters like me, from all over the country, will be led by REI guides in groups of about 15 on various trails with differing lengths and degrees of difficulty.
My thanks to Richard Greene, Mary's beloved husband, for his support of my campaign. and to all those who have contributed to my fundraising for this event. It's not too late to make a tax-deductible gift to LLS - right on this page. Donations in any amount are appreciated and will be used in support of cancer research, patient services, and education programs.
THANK YOU!
Mary
Our original date to Hike Columbia River Gorge was June 2020...that was pushed to September 2020...then June 2021...and NOW: rescheduled for May 2022! I'm looking forward to my first Team In Training HIKE to support the mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed aspects of daily life for most of us but one thing it hasn't changed is...CANCER.
Blood cancers continue to be diagnosed and treated during the pandemic...and the research, therapy development, and patient services for those impacted forges ahead. I am continuing to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in memory of my brother in law, Buck Lauer, who battled multiple myeloma -- and in honor of all cancer patients, their families, and caregivers.
Since there are no means to prevent or do early screening for most blood cancers, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society research agenda is focused on finding CURES. A tax-deductible donation -- in ANY amount -- will provide much-needed funding for research, education for medical professionals, patient and caregiver support groups, co-pay assistance, and many other direct-to-patient benefits.
** CURRENT FUNDRAISER ** - I've begun a small fundraiser that can have a BIG impact! In addition to raising funds for LLS, my gotsneakers.com campaign will keep old athletic shoes out of the landfills by recycling/upcycling them. Message me for more info on how you can donate your old sneakers to help me raise $ to #beatbloodcancers ! Email: msmary217@aol.com or FB Messenger: msmary217
Thank you for your continued support of my efforts!
GO TEAM!
Mary
