I had an amazing time at the Disney Marathon weekend! For this eventTNT raised over four million dollars for blood cancer research and treatment. I felt so proud to be a contributer. I wrote about my experience on my blog.
The picture above is my singlet-- I tried to include the names of all my family and friends affected by cancer and the family and friends of those who donated and supported me.
If anyone would still like to donate, this page will be active for the rest of the month!
Seven weeks from today my Disney Half Marathon/TNT adventure will be in its final stages. I will be in Orlando looking forward to the TNT Inspiration Dinner on Friday and the race EARLY Saturday morning. So in the next seven weeks I have many training miles to log but thanks to your generosity and support, I have reached my initial fundraising goal. I will keep working on raising more in this battle against blood cancers and here is my main reason (though certainly not my only reason):
Yesterday I was in Washington, DC. I attended the "Rally to Restore Sanity," which some people might think was a good idea given my decision to commit to raising almost $3000 and finish a Half Marathon ;) In the Metro Station was a poster that made me smile. This is my friend, Audrey, and I wanting to get in on the TNT action.
As for training, this weekend's "long run" consisted of miles of walking around DC. In general, all is going well on the physical side of things. On the fundraising side, I'm almost 90% of the way to my goal. If you were thinking about donating, now would be a great time.
Thank you to my supporters, whether you think I'm sane, or not!
Hard to believe that in less than three months we'll be at the starting line (at 5:40am, after getting up at 2:30 am..yes, Disney races are early)! Today my mom and I did our run/walk for almost 6 miles. It's actually the longest distance I've done while running as much as I did and it went great! I'm sore from my senior brown belt taekwondo test Friday night so I wasn't sure how I'd feel.
So overall an amazing weekend for many reasons. Brynna and I have only red and senior red belts before black. Amazing Fall weather. An awesome book signing yesterday. A double "sweet 16" party for two close friends last night. And successful training mileage this morning. I'm feeling very lucky.
I have some more names for my shirt: Mary, Christine, Aunt Jan, Helene, Cheryl and Elina. If you want me to add the name of your loved one/friend/hero just let me know. Thank you all again for your support!
When I participate in the Disneyworld Half Marathon, my purple TNT shirt will have names on it. Names of family, friends, family of friends and friends of friends...all affected by cancer.
These names will remind me of the ultimate goal...no more cancer! I think about them during training and I will think about them through each mile of the half marathon.
Here are the names my parents had on their shirts and a few new ones since the last event. I have the feeling that there may be more before January...
