Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in the Nike Women's Half Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I have a very personal reason for doing so; my nephew Noah is a leukemia survivor and my dad, Roland, has been living with a diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome for 13 years. In one of those cosmic coincidences, I'll be running 13 miles almost 13 years to the day from his diagnosis. I will be doing this event with Dad and Noah as my honored patients.
I run in gratitude that Noah and Dad are still very much part of my life. Both have benefited directly from research funded in part by LLS. They are not the only two, though; I recently counted more than a dozen people in my life who have or had some form of blood cancer. I am running for all of them, too.
One of these people is Robert O'Keefe, my children's former principal and a dear mentor to them. He lost his fight with multiple myeloma this May. Dad and Noah remind me of the good reason we have for hope; Mr O'Keefe reminds me that we still have work to do.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Please do so knowing that people I love - maybe even people you care about - will benefit.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
