WARM in Week 16!
May 21, 2012 by Bruce Sullivan

Hi Everybody.

Congratulations to all of the Team In Training runners at the Green Bay Full and Half Marathons!!

It was a bit warm on Sunday and that might have affected my run. Collin and I ran together and looked good for the first 10 miles when it was cooler and then the wheels came off when it was 85 degrees. It was not one of my better runs but still put a couple more in for 12 miles and run/walk another 2 miles. I might have not been as right with my mind after finishing up the 20 miler last week. It is a good time for this since we need to start tapering our training at this point. I will put in 8 miles next week and then on to San Diego for 26.2!

See you next week!

20 Miles for Mom on Mother's Day in Week 15!!
May 13, 2012 by Bruce Sullivan

Good Afternoon LLS Fans.

What a beautiful day in Pewaukee for a run this morning even though we got started at 6am! Coach Todd started with me for the first 10 miles and Coach Laura finished the final 10 miles with me. Coach Laura was awesome since she just competed yesterday in a 50 mile run and finished 1st in her age group. Big Thank You to Coach Laura today coming out with me even though on her bike.

Another milestone for me as I finished 20 miles today. I told the coaches that I was running for my mom today who lives in South Carolina in honor of Mother's Day. I love you MOM! I did it!!

Miles 1-17 felt great and were at a great pace. Miles 18-19 I was dealing with a bloated tummy from too much Gatorade. I tried to compensate for the warmer weather. I learned a lesson. Mile 20 was interesting but I did gut it out to hit that 20 mile goal. Next step....26.2 in San Diego!

Thanks to everyone who has donated to LLS and have also supported me in other ways. If you would still like to donate, my deadline is May 30th.

It has been such a great experience that I have signed up to run in the Summerfest Rock N Sole Half Marathon on June 23rd. It is a Team In Training Alumni Event.

Good luck to all of my TNT friends running in the Green Bay Full and Half Marathons next Sunday. GO TEAM IN TRAINING!!

See you next week as I start to taper down to 16 miles and then to 8 miles before San Diego and represent all fellow cancer survivors and patients battling this disease.

Just Another Run In The Park in Week 14!
May 06, 2012 by Bruce Sullivan

Hey LLS Team In Training Fans!

During our Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team In Training Group run this morning, we all said to each other that it is funny how we started with running 6 miles and now we are knocking off 16!! Plus, all of our marathons are happening in the next few weeks.

I had a great run this morning finishing up 16 miles before the rain moved in.....timing is everything. I am now really excited for my 20 mile run I have scheduled for next Sunday. Everything feels good today even though you feel like you ran 16 miles.

I know I keep saying this, but this has been such a great experience that I have signed up for a couple of half marathons for this year. I will be running in the Team In Training Alumni Event - Summerfest Rock N Sole Half Marathon on June 23rd and they are just confirming another TNT event on September 22nd with the Brewers Mini-Marathon! Since I have been running half marathons for the last 4 weeks as part of my training, it would nice to get some hardware (medal) at the end rather than the "I will see you next week" from Coach Todd!

Thanks again for all of your support. I know that is why it has been such a great experience and I have also reached my minimum fundraising goal of $2900. It is not too late to contribute to LLS. My deadline is May 30th and 100% of all of these donation go directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!

See you after the big two-oh (20)!

Can you believe 18 miles in lucky Week 13!!
Apr 29, 2012 by Bruce Sullivan

Hi Everybody!

I cannot belive it but I just ran a solid 18 miles this morning!! After struggling with 16 miles last week I was a little concerned about today. Especially since I have never run this far in my life!! It felt great to finish strong the last 4 miles. I think with eating better during the week and hydrating properly, it really showed with my run today, along with my continuous training regiment, it really makes a difference with our long distances. A nice early pace also helped.

The run today really boosted my confidence and showed me that I can really do this and run in my first full marathon in about a month. My mind is right for this challenge. I am really looking forward to it.

Next week we will cut it to 16 miles and the week after that will be the epic 20 miler!

As I sit (lay) here writing this entry to my training blog, sore and recovering, it is amazing what you can put your body through and if you treat it well, it will endure and bounce back even stronger. It is similar to my experience with chemo and radiation treatments when battling Hodgkins Lymphoma. This is why I have accepted this challenge,,,,to help raise money and awareness and help those that are battling cancer and to hopefully prevent it from affecting others.

Thank you for all of your support and look forward to the next challenge.

Another Personal Long Distance in Week 12!
Apr 21, 2012 by Bruce Sullivan

Good Afternoon.

Another personal long distance is hit today with 16 miles at Milwaukee's Lakefront. If it was not for Coach Todd, it would have been even tougher. The last two miles were quite the challenge but we gutted them out. I was not really feeling as good as last week and it showed the last mile. We did it and we will just need to recover and bounce back for 18 miles next week!

Everyone is getting excited about their runs since they are all right around the corner and we are recieving our travel arrangements.

I am very close to my fundraising goal, so if there is anything you can do to help the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team In Training, it would be greatly appreaciated. That is the reason why I have accepted this challenge. As a Hodgkins Lymphoma survivor, I want to make sure that more cancer patients have the success stories that I have been blessed with and hopefully more do not even need to battle cancer.

Thanks for coming along for the ride!
