Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I am honored and excited to be entering my fifth season as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training.

All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

At my most recent event, the Nike Women's Marathon, I attended the TNT pasta party. Overwhelmed after entering the ballroom through a crowd of cheering coaches, mentors and supporters, I stood near the food table and took a few pictures. A server who posed for me offered her backstory.

She told me about her best friend for 41 years, Vickie Michel, born 12/23/40, and died 9/3/08 of leukemia. Linda showed me the beads she was wearing from Vickie. She said, "You've lost someone too, haven't you? I can tell." My eyes welled up and I nodded, thinking about my dad. Born 8/28/1945, died 10/9/2002 (age 57) from a brain tumor.

Later, I went back to get some more information from Linda so that I could share her story. Her supervisor, Michelle, also had tears as she told me about her husband who died in January of lung cancer.

Almost everyone you meet, it seems, has had their heart broken at least once by cancer.

Maybe that's why you're here, checking out my web site. Maybe the memory of your loved one will inspire you to run a marathon one day, too. I hope that it will inspire you today to donate. Any amount helps.

I will be running my next half marathon for Linda and Vickie, Michelle and her husband, for myself and my dad, in loving memory. I will be running for Kit, Meghann, Skip, Paul, Jill, Josh, and many many more who are surviving. I will be running for all of the families and friends who are holding on.
