On Friday, November 23rd, the University of Washington Huskies take on the Washington State Cougers in Pullman at this year's Apple Cup! Whether you proudly wear your purple and gold or bleed your crimson and gray, it's always fun to place a little wager on the game to make things even more interesting! Here's how it will work:
Buy as many squares as you want for $10 a square! Just donate on the website and leave a message that you are donating for Apple Cup squares (I'll determine the # of squares based on how much you donate). Squares will be assigned randomly, and once all the squares are sold, I'll post a picture here of the completed gameboard so you can see what you got.
Winnings will be doled out each quarter in increasing amounts:
1st quarter winner: $25
2nd quarter winner: $50
3rd quarter winner: $75
Final winner: $100!!
The rest of the money collected will go straight to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to support cancer patients and finding a cure for cancer!
P.S. If you are as clueless as I used to be about football squares, here's a great how-to: http://keithlam.com/2006/02/07/football-squares-pool/
Do you want to run the Nike Women's Half Marathon with me? You can! Donate $13.10 by the morning of the race on October 14 in honor of my 13.1 miles, and I will write your name on an arm or leg so that you can cross the finish line with me! And then you can brag to all your friends and say you ran a marathon!
Help support cancer research and cancer patients, and "run" a half marathon at the same time! Help me raise $1300 by the day of the race!
I know what you're thinking.
Didn't she just do this? Didn't she just run a marathon and raise $3,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society? Didn't she just ask me for money? And the answer, quite frankly, is yes.
Here I am, finishing my 3rd marathon!
But I'm doing it again.
Because Team in Training has become a part of me. This isn't just about a running addiction (although, admittedly, partly it is), but it's also about being on this amazing team, with these amazing people, raising more and more money for a cause that has become increasingly important to me. The longer I spend with this team, the more stories and experiences I hear, and the more I want to raise money in an effort to make blood cancers disappear.
In June of this year, I had two indescribably heart-moving, life-changing, inspirational weekends in San Diego and Seattle as I ran the San Diego Rock N Roll Full Marathon and the Seattle Rock N Roll Half Marathon 3 weeks later. I could rehash all these amazing memories here to help convince you to donate money to this incredibly worthy cause, but I've already spent some time writing about them over on my blog at doggedlyrunning.blogspot.com. You can read about my San Diego experience here and here. And you can read about my Seattle experience here. Please take some time to do so, so that you can fully understand why I'm asking you to donate. Again.
But now, let's talk about this season and the next crazy undertaking I'm embarking upon for Team in Training. It's time to get Goofy in Disney World!! At the culmination of this season, I will be completing the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge in Walt Disney World. What does that mean? Well, first of all it means that I've apparently turned into a crazy woman. Because for my 4th season of Team in Training, not only am I going to run another marathon, but I'm going to do a half marathon the day before.
That's a half marathon (13.1 miles) on January 12 and a full marathon (26.2 miles) on January 13, for a total of 39.3 miles in one weekend. Because apparently a full marathon isn't enough for me anymore. Apparently I have to do more :)
I'd love for you to join the team and be there with me in Disney World in January, but if you can't do that, then please think about making a generous donation to support my efforts and the efforts of all the amazing people who donate their time, energy, and funds to eradicate blood cancers.
