After a long run at the Marymore Park... 2 weeks ago... not a dry day since then, but we are not going to be discouraged! Go Team!
We came ready to represent the Team in Training! I was so excited - it was my first official race with a bib, a real number, and the actual time registered on line!
After the race we raised some funds for LLS at the beer garden!
Training is hard. Especially when they take weeks (25 of them) of discipline, scratch that, self-discipline. On Saturday I ran for 3 hrs and 10 min in a freezing cold, at 7 am, with snowflakes flying around me. This is the longest I have ever run.
Now, imagine getting up next day (ouch), going downstairs in my pajamas, coffee, breakfast, the usual routing for lazy Sunday and then I look outside. Trees are moving, rain is pouring down. It's 38 degrees outside. How on earth am I supposed to change in to my running gear and, even if I can get into my car in the garage without facing the outside, how do I step out of it in the rain and cold to do my recovery run for 40 min? I drive to a trail where there are always some serious runners and bikers "available" to make me get out (I cannot be seen by these fearless people not getting out of my car). Text my boyfriend about the happening and he replies: "how about some recovery nap :-)" wow - that was helpful... it would be fantastic, I guess… in my pajamas, on the couch in front of the TV, with my dogs on me... Snap out of it! "I'm awesome!" - I tell myself and step outside. Cold and wet - "I love it like that! Refreshing!" - I tell myself. I stretch, or try to look like I am stretching and my aching muscles resist with all the tension they could possibly gather over night. Easy does it, let's go...let's go...let's go! And I am off...
I think about the marathon, I imagine people cheering for me "Yeah! Nataliya! You are almost there! Just around the band! Just that last 0.2 mile!" Gosh, it would feel amazing... I cannot wait! Really!
When you run 5 times per week, you give your feet and legs to the mercy of your running shoes. There is no better pleasure for me than to get fitted for a pair of new running shoes. OMG! What an excitement it is to break in a new pair. Now, to understand it better: look outside into the rain and grey cold sky – I cannot wait to get out there and run!!! Have you ever had a new pair of jeans that fits and looks perfect on you; you just want to put them on and go out and show it off? It’s kind of like that, but way better. Watch out, hills and long distances!
Thank you, my friends for donating to my fundraising – we are at 57% of my goal! This is amazing!
On the team-running-days I get up at 6:30 am, everything already lined up: banana + peanut butter, water, clothes, watch, ID bracelet. Put it all in and on and go! Never a thought in my head about not going, or being tiered, or feeling lazy. What a great run it was last Saturday at the Seward Park on Lake Washington! 70 min of hard work and then a day of feeling fantastic! Wish it was not windy though, because if there is wind (which there is always wind by the water), you always run against it for the last few hardest as is miles! Thanks to all my friends for the support and the power to run against the wind! That is really what keeps me going.
