Happy new year! I signed up to run the BMO Half-Marathon in Vancouver, BC on May 1, 2011, with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. Along with training to rock the race, I'm also working to raise awareness and funds to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families.
I'm running in honor of everyone battling blood cancer and their friends and family; my teammate Paul and my dad's friend and former coworker Nancy, who are blood cancer survivors; and members of my extended family who have battled cancer of any sort.
My goal is to raise $2500 for the LLS. Fundraising has been going incredibly well so far, and I'm so impressed and humbled by the generosity of everyone I've contacted. Selling beads at the Rose Bowl and a couple of Seahawks games has brought in a fair amount, but most of the money has come from personal donations. If you haven't donated before, I'd really appreciate any support you're able to give -- even a few dollars helps. Donations are tax-deductible. Here is a quick breakdown of what donations can help with:
* $32: Prescription for anti-nausea medication
* $54: One week of low-grade chemotherapy
* $75: Screening for a bone marrow donor
* $100: Monthly blood analysis
* $200: Blood transfusion
* $500: Blood chromosome analysis
