In 1997, my dad - Ned Stanzel - lost a long battle to leukemia. He was just 59 years old. He fought the disease with determination and grace, but a cure did not exist. Since that time, I've become involved in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team in Training program. Every year, thousands of athletes of all shapes and sizes join Team in Training to prepare for a race and to raise funds to help fight blood cancers. Just last year, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society invested $71 million in critical research. On July 12, 2009, I will compete in Ironman Switzerland. I'm dedicating my participation in this 140.6 mile endurance triathlon (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) to the memory of my dad. I hope my "Tri for Ned" will build needed support so we can cross the ultimate finish line - a cure for blood cancers. Will you please make a donation to support my "Tri for Ned" so we can advance the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's mission? If so, just click that "Donate Now" button to the right. Also, if you are so inclined, you can use the "tell your friends" tab at the top of this page to share my "Tri for Ned" site via email and on social networks like Facebook and Twitter. Thank you for your consideration and for stopping by. Sincerely, Scott PS - For updates about the final days of training and the race in Zurich, please visit scottstanzel.com or follow my progress on Facebook (www.facebook.com/scottstanzel) or Twitter (@scottstanzel). |
