Feb 03, 2014

Welcome to my 13th year with Team in Training.  Every year has high points and low points, but never have I experienced such a juxtaposition of emotions as I have with my 2014 Honored Hero.

Angie and I have been business associates that dabbled in friendship for many, many years. After all, she's my daughters' only self-appointed "black grandma."  But in all honesty, her flakiness over the past year was just beginning to tick me off.  I had no idea where she was, or what she was doing.  I just knew she wasn't there for me.

And then late last year, we had "the talk."  It was surreal.  So many unspoken words, but I understood everything she was saying.  Hopes, dreams, fears all mixed together in a whole new world that we both hope you will never have to experience.

[If you are so inclined to undertake the challenge of understanding, I invite you to read her blog:   http://justangelinei.blogspot.com/]  Strap yourself in, it is quite a ride.

I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in the Mayors Midnight Sun Marathon (on my 50th birthday, I might add) as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT). Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.

Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.

Even at 50 I'm still learning.  It's not all about me.  So, don't do it for me.

Join us and do it for you, or do it for Angie!  Thanks for your support.  Karen
