Running Closer to a Cancer Cure
Dec 05, 2012
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. I am so appreciative of everyone who supported me in my efforts in the past two seasons. To say that training for and completing my first and second marathons with Team in Training was life changing is a complete understatement! I met so many amazing people throughout those adventures. I met those that beat cancer, and heard heartbreaking stories of those that did not.
A new adventure has just begun for me. I will be completing the Washington DC Nike Women's Half Marathon on April 28th, 2013 in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! Two of these people are my past honored teammates Doreen B. and Barbara L. who are non-Hodgkin‘s lymphoma survivors. I am also completing the event in memory of my mother, Sue F. Dolliver who passed away from leukemia several years ago. I will be running and walking in their honor and memory this season.
My goal is to raise at least $3,600 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as well as to finish the race in memory of my Mom and honored teammates Doreen B and Barbara L. 75% of all funds raised will go directly to research for a cure of blood related cancers and providing services to patients.
Here some examples on where some of the money goes:
Since 2008, $3.2 million has been invested in local blood cancer research grants for 11 researchers at both Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and University of Washington Medical Research Center in Seattle, WA.
$50 registers one person to be a bone marrow donor
$100 pays the cost of four patients chemotherapy drug prescription co-pays
$150 will provide patient aid to a person with Leukemia, Lymphoma, Myeloma, Hodgkin’s disease for a year
Please consider making a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Remember that no donation is too big or too small. Thank you!
