Racing to Save Lives

I am excited to be entering my sixth season as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. This time, I will be training for my second Nike Women's Half Marathon on October 18, 2009.

All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

Throughout the years that I have been a TNT participant, there have been many moments when I thought, "Why am I doing this?" These moments are often when I am soaking wet after a training practice in the cold rain, or on the last mile of a marathon or half-marathon. Okay, I've thought it on the first mile, too.

When I cross the finish line and receive my medal, though, I think, that's why I do this. When I watch my teammates progress from barely being able to run for two minutes, to running over two hours with smiles on their faces, I think, "That's why I do this." But it's really when I hear the stories from our honored teammates, survivors and their families, about how their lives have been improved thanks to LLS and the money we raise for them, that I know, that's why I do this.

Almost everyone you meet, it seems, has had their heart broken at least once by cancer.

Maybe that's why you're here, checking out my web site. Maybe the memory of your loved one will inspire you to run a marathon one day, too. I hope that it will inspire you today to donate. Any amount helps.
