Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

$50 will register 1 person to be a bone marrow donor

$100 will pay for the cost of 4 patient's chemotherapy drug prescription co-payments.

$300 will train 25 peer volunteers who can provide emotional support to newly diagnosed patients.

$500 will provide patient aid to a person with Leukemia or a related cancer for a year.

$1000 allows patients to meet with health care specialists to design and discuss their disease, treatment plan and prepare them with the info they will need during the treatment process.

I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line--a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

Here is the letter I am sending to all family and friends!

Take on Dr. Seuss "Oh The Places You'll Go.."

May 13, 2009

Today is your day.

You're off to Great Places!

You're off and away!

Good day my dear friends and family! Today I am writing you to officially announce a new place I am going and HOPE that you are willing to come with me! I am training to run another half-marathon! This time I'll be hitting the pavement on Oct 18, 2009 in San Francisco at the Nike Women's Marathon/Half Marathon! I know what you're thinking--she's nuts! How does she have the time, etc. You may have been right in the past, but this time it's different, I'm running to save lives!

This place is so amazing, and worth it, I know you'll want to join in! It's about saving lives and raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with Team In Training! I will be running a 13.1 mile race to raise funds and awareness for research leading to a cure for leukemia and related blood cancers. Over the next 4 months I will pound the pavement here in Wenatchee running and fundraising to find a cure for this disease that claims nearly 1,200 victims a week. I will be running and fundraising in honor of friends and unknown neighbors that have endured this form of cancer. Are you ready to join me? Are you ready to go some place you have never been? If not, keep reading--you will change your mind!

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes

You can steer yourself

any direction you choose.

You're on your own. And you know what you know.

And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.

Now it's time to give you the brains help your feet guide you in the right direction! Leukemia is a malignancy of the blood-forming tissues--bone marrow, lymph nodes and spleen. It appears as uncontrolled multiplication of abnormal blood cells. It is estimated that leukemia and its related cancers will strike over 100,000 Americans this year. The cause of leukemia remains unknown. However, the effectiveness of recently developed treatment methods and steady advances in research bring us closer every day to finding the cause and probable cure of leukemia and related cancers.

My goal is to raise $2800 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society, as well as to finish the race strong, committing my time and energy to saving lives one mile at a time. 75% of every dollar I raise will directly support research for a cure and provide financial assistance to families in our community struggling with the financial burden of treatment.

You'll look up and down streets. Look 'em over with care.

About some you will say, "I don't choose to go there."

With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet,

you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street.

Now that your brains are full and your heart is soft, I am asking you to guide those shoes down the street of giving! Give to a cause worthy of your dollar and prayer for all of us training and fundraising. Give to an organization that has and will continue to fund researchers on the road to developing state of the art medicines for this form of cancer. Give to an organization committed to supporting families who are so affected by this disease and the cost associated with its care.

You can give directly by visiting my website at:

Or you can send your donation directly to me at:

Thank you for going places with me I've never been!

In Loving Kindness,

Rachel Madson
