Greetings Friends & Family!

Well, last year I took on the sun and sea turtles in Maui. This year it is pine trees and a cold lake in Canada. Yep, in June I am heading north to Victoria Island, BC, for the New Balance Half Ironman triathlon. Crazy, eh?! Well, maybe a little - but I will not be alone - I will have my Team in Training (TnT) friends and coaches to keep me company as I swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles, and run 13.1 miles. And like last year, I am raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to beat blood cancers and support patients and families affected by the disease.

Since becoming involved with TnT, it has been eye-opening to learn how many people I know that have been affected by blood cancers. LLS estimates that every five minutes someone is newly diagnosed with a blood cancer. Today 823,000 Americans live with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins disease or myeloma. Since 1949, LLS has invested approximately $600 million in blood cancer research. And the research is working! In 1960, the five-year survival rate for children with the most common form of leukemia was just 4%. Today, it is 85%.

As my awareness grows, the mission becomes more personal and more important. Racing 70.3 miles seems overwhelming. Then I think of all of those battling for their lives and those who have lost loved ones and finishing seems more than achievable.

To cross the finish line, I am training six days a week. But I need your help with raising $4,000 for LLS so that they can continue the mission. Your donation is entirely tax deductable and any amount helps. As always, I will also accept words of encouragement, ice packs and an occasional you go girl !
