Racing to Save Lives!

3/21 UPDATE:

The race is only 7 days away!! I can't believe how close we are - after months of training and fundraising we're off to Hawaii this Wednesday to compete in the Lavaman triathlon! One week from today I'll swim, bike and run in loving memory of my Dad. My Dad passed away during my last Team in Training race and although he didn't battle cancer, he was a huge supporter of my efforts with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and I suit up on raceday in his honor. I am also racing in honor of my friends Anne Attardo's dad, Jessica Hernandez's dad, Mark Rizzo's mom, Jim Nesbitt's dad, Lauren Murphy's dad, Chris' grandfather and all the families who have lost loved ones or have loved ones battling blood cancers. My race will be hard but their fight is harder and we must do all we can to find a cure for this disease. Your doantions help make a difference in the fight and and I hope you'll consider doanting to my efforts to eradicate this disease that has torn too many families apart. I'm only $500 away from my goal and I hope you'll consider giving today. Thank you all for your support. Be on the lookout for a race day update next week and GO TEAM!!

Much love,

Kathy

2/21 UPDATE:

The race is 34 short days away and Chris and I are in full blown training and fundraising mode! Saturday morning we rode 20 miles and then ran 4 miles in one of our last BRICK workouts before the race. A brick is a back-to-back workout where we bike and then run (or swim and then bike) in order to train our muscles for the transition from one sport to the next. Training is going well and I am so excited to compete side-by-side with my husband in the Lavaman triathlon!

On a fundraising note , I want to personally thank all of you who have donated to Chris and I - it is so wonderful to see all the support our friends and family have given us!

Right now we're gearing up for our next big fundraising event. On Friday February 26th we're hosting a silent art auction and raffle at Sole Repair Shop in Capitol Hill (1001 E. Pike Street). We invite you to join us in an evening of beautiful art, great raffle prizes and tons of fun! We'll have a full bar, complimentary food provided by the fine folks at Coastal Kitchen, DJ's plus the chance to bid on and win fantastic art - all while supporting a wonderful cause.

Doors open at 7pm, Bidding ends at 10pm. $12 donation at the door - 100% of the proceeds from the evening will be donated to LLS! If you're in Seattle please join us for what promises to be a stellar evening.

*********************************************************

As one of our first adventures as a married couple, Chris and I are

training to participate in the Lavaman Triathlon as members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. We'll train for the next five months in the wet, cold Seattle winter. Then in March we'll head to Kona (the birthplace of the triathlon) to swim 1 mile, bike 26.2 miles and run 6.3 miles. Together we've committed to raise $12,000 to help LLS fund research and patient care.

As many of you know, I have completed several events with Team in Training over the years -- many thanks to all of you for all your support over the years! My last event was a difficult one as my dearly loved Dad passed away a few days after the race. My Dad fought his illness valiantly and, though he didn't battle cancer, he was always extremely supportive of my efforts with Team in Training. I miss him every day and this year, I am swimming, biking and running in his honor.

This race will be Chris' first - I'm sure there's a little bit of "what did my crazy wife rope me into?" running through his head but he is excited for the challenge. Chris is competing in the triathlon and raising funds for cancer research in honor of his grandfater, Donald J. Hammer, who sadly lost his battle with leukemia.

All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. We are completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support our participation in Team In Training - every dollar helps so please give and together we can find a cure!! Our fundraising pages are linked so you can donate to either one of us.

Be sure to check back frequently to see our progress. And again, thanks for your support!

Go Team!!
