Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in a triathlon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training.
My very personal connection with leukemia began two years ago, just after our wedding, when Erik's grandmother, Alice Nordstrom, was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. Her cancer is being carefully monitored by her doctors, but she will likely battle CML for the rest of her life. Through LLS she has been able to access information about cutting edge treatments as well as financial assistance to help offset the costs of new medication and increased doctor's visits.
Then, in just the last 24 hours, I received news that a cousin of Erik's, Art Hanna, lost his fight with leukemia and a member of my rowing club, Jeff Berkman, is currently undergoing chemotherapy.
Seeing these people, a woman with so much love and such a desire to live, a man who welcomed us into his home with amazing generosity, and a man who made me laugh with every interaction, so intimately connected to cancer makes me want to do everything I can to kick cancer to the curb.
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
