Racing to Save Lives Welcome to my Team In Training home page. Every step I take in training, this year, will have added meaning for me as I reflect on the joys Skip Sand, who just lost his battle with leukemia this past October 2009, brought to me and the many others his life touched. As a way to honor Skip, I will be joining a team in training group November 6 to walk the Seattle Marathon. In 2006, Skip walked the marathon with sheer determination to finish. I had the joy of meeting Skip in 2007 while training for my first marathon. As I begin training for my 12th event, I ponder on what keeps me going besides the awesome camaraderie of teammates and coaches. When I did my first event, a young boy, Joseph, was my inspiration as I spent two years watching his courage, as he fought AML eventually losing the battle. Each event after became a unique journey as I met new heroes as honor patients, parents of students, students and former students. Their demonstrations of courage, spirit and fight inspire me to continue to raise funds for cancer research. Throughout their journey some have lost the battle, while others continue to enjoy the wonders of new days because of current treatments that are now available to them. None of these treatments would be available if it weren't for the unselfish support I, and others, have received from so many. Every step I take in training will have added meaning for me as I reflect on those who are in treatment, survivors and those who have joined the choir of "angels". Thoughts of them instills in me a desire, a need, a goal, that fills my whole being, to do whatever I can in the search for new treatments and a cure for all cancer. The Team in Training events, especially this year's Eugene Marathon, are my contribution to this end. But I need you. So, once again, I am reaching out to you and your generosity to help me reach my monetary goal of $3500 to aid in cancer research. So I say thanks Joseph for being my guiding light. Until we meet again keep pushing me across those finish lines. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support! |
