Thank you to everyone who helped me meet my goal of $2500! That's a good chuck of money and I sincerly hope it helps in the fight against cancer!
Now...all I have to do is finish this race. One month from today!
Alright, Microsoft People! This is it! It's October and it's time for the annual Giving Campaign!!!!!
I've already met my required goal ($1800). I am very close to my personal goal of $2500. But, please don't stop there! The more money you give, the more money doctors and researchers have to help them kill cancer.
I'm doing the heavy lifting here. I am the one taking on sore knees and blisters and fighting off all the ladies admiring my athletic physique on Alki. Okay...actually, they are moving out of the way of my sweaty tubby butt. But, whatever. Point is...running sucks. But, I can't just ask you to fork over money for nothing.
So, I am doing something I never expected to do. And, I am doing it for others so that, together, we can end cancer.
Now...it's time for you guys to help. It's not that hard. Just click on the donate icon, enter your credit card number and submit. Then...hop over to http://give on the network and submit your match request. You are looking for this organization:
Leaukemia & Lymphoma Society
Washington/Alaska Chapter
123 NW 36th St. St. 100
Seattle, WA 98107
Contact: Mrs. Anne Gillingham
That's it! Simple as pie. If I can get only 20 of you to give $25 and have it matched, it would put me over my goal and then some. But...don't think you only need to give $25. Since I hired a lot of you, I know darn well you can give more. *wink*
Thanks for your support! Only about 7 weeks left!!!
Within the team, we always hear stories of why people are running. Many people have lost friends or loved ones to cancer. Some are just running because cancer is stupid and needs to go away.
When I run, I often think of what others have to go through. Yes...my knee may hurt or the new blister I got may be annoying. But, it's nothing compared to chemo.
And the worst part about cancer is that is can get anyone. Take Sparticus, for example. More specifically, take Andy Whitfield, the star of Sparticus: Blood and Sand or Starz. One of my favorite shows.
Andy was a ripped stud. He was the star in a cast of people that looked like they spent 20 hours a day in the gym. And, not Arnold buff...but, all around "in hella good shape" buff. My wife had a crush on him. Even I had to close my mouth once in a while.
At 39 years old, Andy died from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. This guy did everything right, and he still got cancer.
So...I'm going to keep running. Even though, after finishing 9.5 miles this morning, I can't walk because my legs are so tired, I will keep running. Because cancer sucks and it needs to stop killing people. We need to find a way to kill cancer, first.
Obviously, this run would be impossible without the support of Shaundar. She helps me make time for training in the evening and she pushes my butt out the door when I am feeling lazy.
But, she has also been a huge help by putting together a killer playlist for me. Shaundar has a knack for finding new music. And, she's got a super power for finding songs that I love. Even I don't know what kind of music I love. She seems to know better than I do.
From here on out, I will try to include a sample song from the playlist from each post. Starting with "Sleeper" by a group called Zero 7.
Listedn to Sleeper here.
Also...Thank you to my Aunt Colleen and Uncle Dave and my friend and coworker Amanda Sabatini for their donations! You guys keep me motivated!
Don't slack off when it comes to running.
I went on vacation and got lazy with my training. I ran twice in a 2 week period. When I went to do my long run this past Saturday, if felt like starting over.
This week, I am back on schedule. Hopefully, I'll be able to do the long run on Saturday. Just wrapped up a 4.5 miler.
No donations for a while. Time to ask some more.
The Microsoft giving campaign starts in a couple weeks. I'll be knocking on a lot of doors then! But, don't let that stop you from donating now!!!
