Training for The Dopey Challange 2017!
May 18, 2016
Here we go again! Last year I had this crazy idea to run the Dopey Challenge at Walt Disney World in January 2016. If you don't know what that is, see below. It was going to be a great two weeks in Florida with my kids and granddaughters with a little running in between. One thing I looked forward to was running the half marathon portion with my wife, Susan. Everything was going smoothly until half way through training when I developed a problem in my hip. After a month of physical therapy and not enough progress it was decided that I would have to defer running the Dopey Challenge. I was a little crushed to say the least. With Susan still training we were still on for the trip to Disney World. It was a joy to watch her run. Hopefully next time she will eat more while running! She now knows what bonking means.
Fast forward to today. My goal of running the Dopey Challenge is not fulfilled and people are still getting blood cancer. That means only one thing, start training and raising money for the cause. Please help, no donation is too small.
Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
Cancer, when you hear that word associated with yourself or a loved one it takes your breath away. Four years ago my wife was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Her chemo and radiation treatments were successful and she is now cancer free. She has completed a half marathon earlier this year and in June 2016 will do a Century bike ride around Lake Tahoe. The results come from the many people who have donated to the leukemia & Lymphoma Society to find cures for this awful disease
I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Between January 5th and 8th I will try and ake on the Dopey Challenge, it is a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and a Full Marathon. All run around Walt Disney World over those 4 days. One cool thing is I get to run with my wife for the half marathon. Yes, she is going to do it again. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
There is subtle difference between a mission and a promise.
A mission is something you strive to accomplish – a promise is something you are compelled to keep.
One is individual, the other is shared.
When a mission and a promise are one and the same……that’s when mountains are moved and races are won.
It takes more than one person to make up a team and that’s why I’m asking you to donate to my TNT fundraising page. Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures and maybe together we can move a mountain
You can also make your donation by making a check made out to:
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
1444 E. Starpass Dr.
Fresno, CA 93730
Your donation will help fund treatments that save lives every day; like immnuotherapies that use a person’s own immune system to kill cancer. You may not know it, but every single donation helps save a life with breakthrough therapies such as these.
Still not convinced to donate? Watch this short video. Almost all the funding came from LLS
Patients need these cures and they need your support.
Your donation is tax deductable. The number for LLS is 13-5644916
