Every four minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer.
Every ten minutes someone loses their battle.
My brother Patrick lost his battle with Leukemia in 199 after 9 months of hard fighting.
My good friend Don Toenjes lost his fight with Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a particularly nasty form of Lymphoma. He beat it in to submission once (actually remission), against great odds but it came back hard, too hard.
Matthew Hoffman (this is an old picture), started his battle with Leukemia at 3 1/2 and continues to persevere; he is now living like most other normal kids. (YEAH!!!!)
Tyler McGinn,, was just a normal teenager with normal teenage concerns. Diagnosed last September, he fought hard, saw miracles and in the end, the Leukemia (same kind as my brother) won last year
Erin Dean is a wonderful young lady with a delightful sense of humor and positive outlook on life DESPITE TACKING LEUKEMIA FOR THE FOURTH Time. Her pain is constant. Her life is on hold. Her energy level is very low. YET, She continues to persevere and keep the faith.
Tom Grey is currently fighting hard for his life. A strong man of God who's faith is unshakeable is not confined to the hospital. But he has not given up. So neither shall I.
They are the reason I run marathons, ride a centuries (100 mile) bike rides, run/bike/swim triathlons to raise funds and awareness to find a cure for Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. Those fighting blood cancers need our help. During the Seagull Century, approximately 117 people will be directly impacted by a blood cancer, not to mention the thousands of family, relatives and friends. With your support, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society can accelerate cures and improve the quality of life of patients and families. THEY/WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!!!!
I greatly appreciate any and all support, $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, $500, $5000 or any other denomination. It all makes a difference. I also realize that times are tough and if you can't provide funds, could you please pray for those fighting as well as my health as I tackle these events. Thanks!!!
