12/15/13: I did it! I hit my highest mileage in my training program. I ran 14 miles on Sunday, and lived to tell about it. I was so happy that my eyes welled with tears when I hit that 14 mile mark. Over the last several months I have had my moments of doubt, but I always knew that determination would get me to there. Every time it got tough, I just pictured my Mom telling me how proud she was of me and how much she wished she could have run and was running vicariously through me (she had polio as a child and was never able to run). Her memory kept pushing me harder and harder to finish what I started in her honor.
Only 4 weeks left until race day. Now I know that I can do this. I am looking so forward to crossing that finish line!
I’m participating in a Half Marathon as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
I am running in memory of my beloved mother who lost her battle to cancer on July 2, 2013. And in honor of my amazing sister-in-law, who won her battle against Leukemia and is a testament to what is possible with life after treatment.
I have never run a Half Marathon before, but I'm giving 100% in hard work and discipline to train for this event. I ask you to please support my efforts by making a donation (big or small) with Team In Training to help advance the research for cures.
