cancer sucks. Period, the end.
I am part of Team Shrinking Jeans, formed from an online weight loss community that I write for called The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans. I initially decided to join Team in Training for two reasons:
1. my family has been touched by blood cancers
2. I wanted training assistance to run my first 1/2 marathon
However, as I have now been fundraising for LLS and getting the word out there about what I am doing, I am AMAZED at how many lives have been touched by blood cancers. Everyone seems to know someone that has been touched by the dreaded "c". As I have gotten to know the individual stories of the survivors and the patients and their families, I have become convinced that I am doing the right thing.
I am bringing awareness to this horrible disease. I am fundraising for an organization that puts all that it has into researching a cure and to supporting patients and their families.
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is awesome at what they do.
I just want to do my small part in helping in any way that I can.
I will be running the San Diego Rock n Roll Half Marathon in June 2010. That is 13.1 miles that I will run to show my support to LLS and to blood cancer patients everywhere.

3/8 update: my long run this weekend was a 5 miler. It took me 3 miles to fully warm up and then I hit an endorphin high. I felt awesome for the rest of the time. I'm a little under halfway in my fundraising efforts- I need to step it up!
3/20 update: completed the 2nd of my 6 mile runs and had a PR of 10:30 min miles- unheard of for me! I was so excited and on a high for a few days. Finalizing 2 fundraising events, a wine party and a neighborhood block party, as I still am a long way from my fundraising goal. Next weekend will be an 8 mile run- something I couldn't even fathom a short few months ago.
4/29 update: after a 10 haitus from running due to injury, I am back full force. My training schedule had to be adjusted and I am still holding at 8 miles. Next weekend will be my first 10 miler. We are down to the last 2 weeks for fundraising and I'm stressing out over having to raise $600+.
