Running for These Ladies!
Mar 16, 2014 by Ellen Robertson
In 6 weeks I will lace up my sneakers for the Nike Women's Half Marathon. I do it for all survivors and fighters of these diseases, but in particular for two amazing women who were a big part of my time at UNC. First, and foremost, is Mandy, who started this whole thing through team STRONGER and her big bad fight against CANCER.
But there is another amazing woman who has touched thousands THOUSANDS of lives over the years at UNC, and I am beyond lucky to have had my time with her. Jean DeSaix is one of the few teachers who will gladly take on a huge lecture class every semester of and make those students feel greatful to have been in her presence. I had the pleasure of working with her not in the classroom but in extracurriculars, but she had that impact none the less. Now that I myself am a teacher in higher education, I often find myself emulating and wondering what Jean would do and how to be more like her. The entusiasm and smile that we all love, was only slightly dimmed during her fight, which took place during my 4 years at UNC. Lucklily she has gone on to impact more and receive her accolades she so rightly deserve.
So here I go, running miles, raising money, all with these two women and their personal stories as my fuel!
Here I Go Again!

Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
Some number of you have already donated to a cause to support, spur, or solidify my fledgling running career. This time I felt like I needed to go back to the source. You might recall my friend Mandy and how her challenge was got me started, so now I have finally joined Mandy's team, TEAM STRONGER, and will run with her in this race. This awesome woman has been through so much, with lymphoma being one of them, and like with my efforts for St Jude, I want to see and end to these horrible diseases.
I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in the Nike Women's Half Marathon. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures. I will bug you until you do, and thank you profusely once you have!!
