My Fundraising Page

Last week I found out that Nike is not offering the full Marathon at their Nike Women's race in San Francisco.  I was committed to do a full marathon to help raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  I felt that training and competing for a full marathon would be a huge challenge for me and wanted the marathon to have a big purpose.  So with that I will be running in the Chicago Marathon - October 12th.

Due to the fact that I had to change my fundraising event, I had to also change my fundraising page.  Unfortunately, known of my previous donors are listed.  Team in Training says its a glitch in their system.  No worries, none of the money that my generous donors donated was lost.  I do want to thank all of my donors here on this post.

I became a duathlete on April 26, 2014 at The Infirmary Twilight Duathlete in Mobile, AL. This duathlon consisted of a 2 mile run, 10 mile bike, followed by 2 mile run.  It was tough, very hot, but fun!  Had some mishaps but was deteremined to keep going.  Ever since I have signed up with Team in Training and something is challenging, I think of people who are suffering through cancer and the challenges they face. What I am doing is so small compared to what cancer patients must go through.

I used Jeff's 20 year old mountain bike for the race.

As soon as I pulled out of the transition area, the chain came off.  I never fixed a bike chain in my life!  Fortunately, someone came over to help.  I was off - I thought.  I turned onto the street shifted gears, bam! - bike chain off again.  I could not believe it.  My mind started to race of thoughts of not finishing.  Then, I told myself there is no way that I will not finish this race.  With the help of a couple I got that chain back on and prayed that it would stay.  I did complete the race and was pretty happy with my time despite the 2 chain incidence.

My determination is what will get me through my upcoming marathon.  It is the same determination that I will use to spread the word and raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma society.  Every mile I run in the marathon will be honor of those dealing with leukemia or lymphoma or unfortunately those who have lost the battle.  LLS is such an awesome cause to donate money.  Please consider any amount.  Every penny counts and definitely adds up.  Don't think that your donation is too small - its not!

I started running (again) Labor Day weekend 2012.  (I say again because I had run track in high school - a long time ago, LOL)  My 11 year old son, Gabriel had signed up for cross country and I thought it would be good to go run with him.  He had to stop the team due to soccer conflicts, but I had caught the running bug.  The picture shown was my first race at USA Go Run 5k benefitting gynecological cancers.  I convinced my good friend Tamara to run with me.  Since then we have run many races togerher including 3 half marathons.  Our biggest adventure was the glass slipper challenge in Walt Disney World this past February.  This challenge included a 10k on the first day, followed by 1/2 marathon the next day.  I got to share this great event with my Dad and stepmother.

Running with friends and family has been so much fun and inspiring.  It's been a great pleasure to have my kids, their friends, and yes even my husband, Jeff has joined in.

The photo above was at last year's USA Go Run.  Gabriel, Aidan, (friend of Gabriel) Gracie, and Jeff  (not in photo) all ran.

I also encouraged my dearest and closest friend Gina Schellhasse to run.  We have ran 2 races in Baton Rouge and the Azalea Trail Run.

Each race I have done so far no matter how small or big have had some meaning to me.  The preparation prior to the race and the event itself.

The biggest race of all will be the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco this October.  Every step I take during my training and the actual race will be for the survirors, current patients, and for the memories of those who lost the fight to blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphomas, and myelomas.

I hope that all of you, my friends, family, and co-workers will be able to support me by your prayers, thoughts, encouragment, and financial support.

Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.  I have signed up for the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco.  I have dreamed of doing a full marathon after now completing 3 half marathons.  When I decided to do a full marathon, I knew it would have to have a purpose and meaning.  This is why I have decided to run for team in training.

During my training as a pediatrician I was touched very deeply by a toddler who suffered and died of leukemia.  His name was Chace and I have thought of him and his mother often during my life.  His struggle and his mother's determination and love inspire me to endure training and the race.  My own mother who lived through breast cancer and to succumb to colon cancer 20 years later has been a driving force in my life.   I will train and race for all the surviviors, current cancer patients, and for the memory of those who have died.

I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.

Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
