"Life isn't about waiting for the Storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain."
Racing to Save Lives
I'm training to participate in an endurance event. The Nike Women's Half Marathon in San Francisco on Sunday, Oct 17, 2010. I am a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! My home town hero here in Monroe, North Carolina is an 11 year old girl, name Shelby Price. A member of our dance family at Carolina Dance Company, she started her battle with ALL in 2007. After 2.5 years of chemo she is in remission and she is back dancing again.
My motivation also comes from the loss of my sister Nancy on June 22, 2009. The remaining six sisters have come together as one force, Six Sisters Striving for a Cure. Every dollar we collectively raise is one step closer to a cure.
Like so many of you I have lost several loved ones to blood cancer. I will not lose another without doing everything in my power to help find a cure. I will fight for those who can't. Help me with this fight by donating a little or a lot. When you donate $5 or more I will wear a ribbon with your honoree's name on my running shirt.
Every 10 minutes, someone dies.
Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children under the age of
20. Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers and incidence increases with age.
Our goal is to decrease the lives lost every day and make Lymphoma less common cancer among all ages.
September is coming to a close and Nike’s Women’s Marathon is closing in.
I have put numerous miles on my second pair of Nike Glides. As a Team, Six Sisters Striding for a Cure has raised $4,100!
We are now told to taper our training to restore our bodies for the big event. We are prepared to run our race. It is like we are coasting down this long steep hill with no bumps in the road, gliding into and over the Finish Line.
I don’t see it that way. I say our road is still an up hill climb with lots of bumps and obstacles to over come. Six Sisters are still worried about all those untreatable blood cancers. The babies and small children who have not yet participated in life to the fullest, who want that fighting chance. Cancer is out there so coasting is not an option. Please continue to help us find a cure for cancer.
Thank you to all who feel our urgency and have helped us make an impact by raising awareness as well as funds. We all need to be on the same TEAM!
