Racing to Save Lives-Fundraising Deadline August 14, 2009

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I'm training to participate in the Nike Women's Marathon on October 18th as part of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. I'm excited to be running for someone other then myself. I'm running for people who can't, for people who are no longer here to run anymore, and for people who don't know this money may be used for them in years to come. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am competing in this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

I am doing this because I want to give something back. The money I raise will pay for support groups, educational programs, and financial planning for afflicted families. It will also fund grants for doctors who are working toward better treatments and a cure. Their efforts are critical, because blood cancers kill more children in the United States than any other cancer and strike even more adults. An estimated 110,960 new cases of blood cancers will be diagnosed nationwide this year alone; some 55,100 patients will die. I want to do what I can to change those numbers!

Your help is needed because...

Every 4 minutes one person is diagnosed with a blood cancer.

Every ten minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer. That's nearly 146 people each day or more than 6 people every hour.

Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20.

New cases of leukemia, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma account for nearly 10% of new cancer cases diagnosed in the United States this year.

An estimated912,938 people in the United States are currently living with, or are in remission from blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma.

The good news:

My teammates and I are raising funds to helpWIPE OUT leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma and prevent these diseases from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who have battled or are currently battling blood cancers. We need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

If you would like me to walk in honor or memory of someone you care about, please include their name. I'll be proud to carry their names on my shirt as I go one step at a time!

****8-11-09 - Saturday I ran 8 miles in 1hr40min. Pretty good for someone that just started running in May!!

****7-29-09 - Friday I will be doing 6 miles!!! A 2nd yard sale is planned for Saturday in Cooks Valley at a friends house. Last week's yard sale was a huge success; but have some items left. August 3-9 Salsarita's in Kingsport will donate 10% of your total check to LLS if you will bring in a donation coupon. I will be emailing the coupon out and trying to get it up on a website by the end of the week.

****7-23-09 - Yard sale Saturday 7-25 in Kingsport . Thank you to ALL that have donated items for the sale. Hoping we raise lots of money for LLS.

Wish me luck as I go for 6 miles on Saturday after the yard sale!!!

****7-14-09 - I started the basket/glasses raffle today. A BIG thanks to all those that are helping me with tickets. And an even BIGGER thanks to those that are purchasing them. Good luck to everyone - Three winners will be drawn on July 31st.

****7-11-09 - I participated in the Crazy 8's 8K Road Race. I finished in under 1 hour!! Not the best time in the world, but I did finish!! And that's what it's all about!

****7-1-09 - I have logged 50 miles!!!!! I've been training for almost a month!! Hard to believe. I'm up to four miles - Wish me luck as I run in the Firecracker 4-miler in Rogersville this weekend.

****6-6-09 - Today is the official start for the Fall Season of Team in Training. I ran 2 miles without stopping!! I never thought it would be possible.
