Raising for a Cure, Racing for Ryan
Ryan was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma last January, and upon hearing this news, I immediately wanted to do everything I could to ensure that he would get better. I am so thankful that there are treatments that are helping him, and his prognosis is very positive. This treatment may not have been available if it were not for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), which has raised millions of dollars for cancer research as well as patient services. I knew there was one more thing I could do to help not only Ryan, but everyone battling cancer.
This October I am running the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco along with two of my sisters, Jennifer & Autumn! The race will benefit LLS, and we have each pledged to raise $5000 to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I will prepare for this race with the help of Team In Training, which has raised $850 million dollars for LLS since 1988.
Please consider making a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Donations are tax deductible, and you will be helping ensure that patients receive the treatment they need to overcome these deadly illnesses.
I hope you will visit my website often to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
**Update 07/10/08**
Ryan has completed his cancer treatment!! After 4 long months of chemotherapy followed by 1 month of radiation he is now cancer free. I realize more than ever how important it is to continue supporting cancer research so more people can have a happy ending!
I have been running 2-5 miles, 4 days a week even in this heat! I average about 10 miles per week. It is slowly getting easier, but it helps to know my efforts are helping to raise money (and you should see my calves)!
**Update 09/23/08**
Ryan and I celebrated his return to health with an excellent camping trip to Lost Lake! It was awesome to see him outside and healthy again. I am so grateful that he is healed.
Training has been much easier with the cooler weather, and I'm running further than I thought possible. I will be ready for the race next month!
A HUGE THANK YOU to all of my fantastic donors!! My sisters and I have raised over $11,100. We could not have done this without you and together we are saving lives!
