My name is George Melichar and I am a Marathon Athlete. I have an inspiring story of life change, following my dream to be a destination marathon athlete, weight loss, and the desire to give back to my community of New Orleans and State of Louisiana. I always tell people when asked why I chose such a drastic life change; I say "I am committed to my commitments of change"
A little about myself: I am a proud resident of New Orleans after moving from Chicago. I worked in commodities trade and am a fashion designer by trade. When I moved to New Orleans I wanted to be part of the recovery process by getting involved; but discouraged regularly. So I made a life plan dedicated to training, hard work, dedication, and taking a moment daily to be kind. By running marathons I have had to opportunity to be a visual representation in the athletic world and destination I visit as a leader to my community, brought attention to the causes of charities, started an international writing program(hand-writing-postal-service-mail) with little to no emailing, inspired fans to get involved in there cities and New Orleans, sew all my race wear, and have changed my life for the good by changing the lives of others for the good.
Currently I am a Rock & Roll Marathon Series "Legend" Heavy Medalist. By the end of 2011 I will have achieved the historic first year of the "Idol" Heavy Medal, ran an bi-national Marathon(Detroit Free Press), and concluded my first year as a destination marathon athlete as a force to be reckoned with. My 2012 goal is to run all of the 30+ rock & roll marathons to receive a special service award for my city, for my fans, and myself. I also have the opportunity to be a Idol medalist legacy that will be an epic award; will further give me the opportunity to give back to my community.Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.
I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
