My story

In June 2016, I was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. It was June 8th, two days before my son's 4th birthday. At first, I was in shock. And then, a sense of relief. Why relief? Because I'd been misdiagnosed for over 2 months and I'd been in pain for over 7 months. I was going in and out of doctor's offices, hospitals and ERs with no answers and finally, there was an answer. And with that, a plan forward. Over the next five months I did twelve rounds of ABVD. My last chemo was the day after Thanksgiving. On December 20, the day after my last PET scan, I was deemed to be in complete remission.

Just over a month later, here I am signing up to train for a Grandma's half marathon in Duluth, MN (June 17, 2017) because if you know me, you know that's who I am. I love to train for 5ks, 10ks and half marathons, and for me, the first step back to good health is getting back into running. I'm not gonna lie, it won't be easy. But I did it after my son was born and I'm determined to do it now. What's even better is that I get to go through this with two of my best friends! But also, the real cherry on top is that I get to raise money for one of my most favorite charitable organizations.

But it doesn't stop there.

My sister's story

Over 16 years ago, my sister experienced some of the same symptoms I had before I was diagnosed with cancer. For her, it was Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (in fact it was her prompting me to not accept vague answers that helped me keep pushing until I found out what was really wrong with me). At the time, I was just a junior in high school. I understood that she was sick, but I didn't really get the severity of it. Luckily for all of us, she also went into remission and has been rocking it ever since.

But the severity of it finally hit me a couple years later when I went off to college and I started running for the first time in my life. I thought about her situation and how grateful I was that she was still in remisssion and decided to train for my first half marathon in her honor...through Team in Training and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. From there on out, I was hooked. I've trained for events ever since, on and off through TNT and LLS.

Although I'm not happy that either of us had to go through this, I am happy to once again be reunited with such a great organization.

What you can do...

It takes more than one person to make up a team and that’s why I’m asking you to donate to my TNT fundraising page for TNT!

By participating as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) TNT, I am raising funds to help find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients.

Your donation will help fund treatments that save lives every day; like immunotherapies that use a person’s own immune system to kill cancer. You may not know it, but every single donation helps save a life with breakthrough therapies such as these.

Patients need these cures and they need your support. Patients like me and my sister.

Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help get us all closer to a world without blood cancers.

Thank you!
