My fundraising goal has officially been met! It's really been met for awhile, but I had a few last donations to get put into the system. They just went through this month and it feels so nice to see that little bar at 100%! I could not have accomplished this without all of you and your wonderful support. Thank you so much for believing in me and this amazing cause. My work is not over yet, though - I plan on continuing to help my Flex and Austin teams. So you'll still probably see all kinds of event and fundraiser posts and emails. :) We still have a long way to go towards a cure.
So, while my fundraising may be complete, my training has really only just truly begun. I got sidelined for a good month or so thanks to some intense back pain and... morning sickness! Yep. Mike and I are expecting! I am about 15 weeks along currently. At first I had no hesitation about continuing with the Dumbo Double Dare, but these slight complications did give me pause. However, my doctor, mentor, and coach have been exceptionally supportive of me continuing my training as long as I remained healthy and nothing else crept up. So far so good!
I have about a month left until the big weekend and I will be 5 months along. I am so excited and thankful to be able to do it - thanks to you all. And how comforting to know I won't be alone on the course!
My first ever virtual 5K was a huge success! I cannot recommend this enough as an amazing fundraiser idea. It takes a bit of work and lots of planning, but it's a great way to put on a fun event while raising funds.
The medals turned out so great! I cannot thank my extremely talented friend Lahela enough for creating our original logo. I am certain we have her to thank for the incredible 74 participants we had - from all across the world! Texas, North Carolina, California, Florida, Canada, and the UK just to name a few!
The Austin based run went well, too! I learned a bit about map making, so I will be better prepared for next time. But we had some tasty treats and smiling faces!
Thank you all so much for making this 5K possible and helping me to raise over $1,000 even after medal and shipping costs!
35%! And we actually have a good $355 for our upcoming event entries. So that's actually closer to 45%! And 73% of the initial goal I have to meet in a month. It seems so possible! And all thanks to my incredible friends and family.
If you don't mind, please continue to spread the word. We have some big events coming up and I need participation to make them a success! This week in particular, registration is due on March 21st for the $10 March Madness Bracket Contest. We decided to go with a $100 Amazon gift card to the winner, which will be emailed out at the end of the tournament on April 8th. I do hope you'll join and share the event with anyone you think might be interested! Thank you for everything.
We have met my first fundraising goal! \o/ And it is all thanks to you wonderful people! We now have a total of $2119. Now my spot at the Dumbo Double Dare is officially secured! And the remaining $1100 should be easy to attain between the upcoming events planned and Michael and Deborah's company donation matching!
A big part of this success is thanks to the great Water 2 Wine event we had last night. 15 people got to enjoy the fine vintages of the winery and nosh on some tasty Costco treats for a mere $20. Unfortunately we'd actually had 6 cancellations - the majority of those due to illness. So we are considering doing another one of these in a few months for the poor folks who missed out on the fun. Maybe a celebratory get together when we're close to our final goal! :)
Today is such an exciting day! Thanks to lovely Huffman family, I am officially over 50% to my April 16th fundraising goal! And I'm at 32% overall. I cannot thank my donors enough. And to think, I haven't even had an event yet!
Speaking of events, today I announced the event I am most thrilled about - a virtual 5K! Which means that anyone, anywhere can run it! I felt like this was a perfect fit for all my friends and family spread out all over the world that can't necessarily make an Austin event. For a $20 donation you get a personalized bib and swag bag, complete with a spectacularly sparkly medal and certificate of completion when you submit your time and info after running anytime between April 19th and 22nd. Learn all about Pink Elephants on Parade here!
I'm leading a local run at Rattan Creek Park on Saturday, April 20th at 9:00am which will end with celebratory circus treats and Dumbo's "bath water" (pink champagne or lemonade). I can't wait. I'm pumped about putting together the swag bags, too. So please spread the word and get your friends and family involved!
And this is really still just the beginning. Look for March Madness brackets, a poker tournament, and Crossfit WOD on the horizon! I've also finally returned to my running blog - Run, Cavegirl, Run - so you can check that out for info on how my actual training progresses. Wish me luck!
