Hello and welcome to my Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) Team in Training home page. My name is Dominica Mello.
Six years ago, my husband, a soldier in the US Army and a great dad, came home on R&R from his second deployment in Iraq. He had a lump that was diagnosed as an extremely rare form of Lymphoma. Three months later he died. He is the reason that I run.
Each year more than 20,000 people are diagnosed with lymphoma. The number of people who will develop some form of cancer numbers in the hundreds of thousands, each year. Cancer is the second highest cause of death in this country.
The only hope of combating this horrific disease is to find a cure. The hope of finding a cure only exists through research. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is an organization that supports cancer research.
I volunteered to run a half marathon to assist the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society with fundraising which will advance us all in the race for a cure. In order for me to be successful, I need your help. I am confident that with enough funds raised and enough research a cure can be found that will prevent other children from loosing their parents, other women and men from loosing their spouses. Please donate and support my run. Together I believe we can make a difference.
